I am for the most part inactive on Guild Wars Wiki and in the game Guild Wars. I do still lurk here multiple times a week (down from multiple times a day in the past), and do what clean-up I can see is needed when I'm here. --Rainith 01:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC) updated

If anyone is curious to see what I may be doing now, my Xbox 360 has a blog that it has been keeping for a while, folks may find it humorous.  :)

While I may eventually get around to something worthwhile on this page, may I present why I believe that Heroes and Henchmen are better than PUGs.

Thoughts on blocks[edit]

I've been meaning to put something like this here for a while, but never got around to it. Now seems like as good a time as any.

If any other Admin feels that a block that I've imposed is out of line, please feel free to discuss it with me, on wiki or via email. Or if you feel that I have gone completely around the bend and the block is a travesty of justice, modify it as you see fit. I freely admit that I'm not infallible and I make mistakes, if you feel that I have made one, please let me know. The same holds true for anyone else about letting me know that you feel the block is in error.

The Mailbox[edit]

Recently I've been getting quite a few emails sent to me by various members feeling that they've been banned inappropriately. Maybe they feel that since I'm mostly inactive, that I might be a soft touch, or just do what they ask? I don't know, but to potentially combat that, I'm going to start posting the emails and I will respond here, not in email. Note that this only applies to the emails that are complete and provable BS. This starts with today's email. I will not post people's email addresses.

"Hello,

"Chieftain Alex" banned my IP Address (94.169.181.150) [Block id#27081] for one year for "personal attacks" because yesterday I disagreed with a revert he made. There was no "personal attack," I had called him a noob after proving him wrong; but is calling someone a noob worth a year ban? He is totally abusing his power and banned me because I disagreed with him.

Okay, first off the actual block was not done by Chieftain Alex, it was done by Aiiane and is apparently a permant IP block:

  • "16:48, 8 February 2013, Aiiane (Talk : contribs : block) blocked 94.169.181.150 (Talk) (infinite, account creation blocked) (personal attacks & subsequent harassment) (unblock : change block)"

That is the only block for that IP address on the block list. Now let us move on to your claim that calling someone a noob is not a personal attack, let me point you to GWW:NPA where near the end of the very first section it states "Insulting or disparaging an editor is a personal attack regardless of the manner in which it is done." Clearly the way you used noob in both your talk page and in the edit summary of your edit of Gallery of miniatures where you state "This page is completely pointless and retarded. You noob. Get laid."

So my response to you would have to be that I disagree that a year is too long for what you did, based off your short history here, I don't think that a year would be long enough for you to mature to the point where you'll be able to responsibly edit here, but Aiiane might have been a little harsh with choosing infinite. If you remind me in a couple of years, I might end your ban then.

Comments are welcome on my talk page.

Update

After receiving some new information, I found that Aiiane only extended the original block after some harassment from the blocked party. After seeing what this harassment was, I support the updated block timeframe.

"hello,

am participating on "NCSoft West" private bug bounty program on hackerone. my accounts are for testing purpose.

please unblock me

So, let me say, I have no idea if what you say is true or not, but IMO that is besides the point. You were essentially vandalizing the wiki and doing stuff that looked all kinds of shady, so I'm going to stand by the block. In doing this, I'm treating you exactly the same as I would treat anyone else doing what you were doing. --Rainith (talk) 00:39, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
