What is the point of this category?[edit]
What is the point of this category? Was this page created by an ArenaNet employee acting in an official capacity? Since AreneNet created all of GuildWars, if this category refers to something in the game created by ArenaNet, then wouldn't pretty much every page in this Wiki fall under this category, i.e. isn't this article pretty much synonymous with a "Guild Wars" category? I think this category should be deleted -- not that the pages should be deleted, just this category. Banaticus 21:56, 8 April 2007 (EDT)
- I've added a delete tag to this article - I have the same opinion as you. BigBlue 05:43, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
- It's not quite the same thing. See Template:Arenanet article2 for its intended purpose (that template is auto-categorising all those pages to Category:ArenaNet content). I'm removing the deletion tag for now, as those kinds of articles will need to be differentiated somehow from editor-generated content. A whole lot of the articles in this category aren't supposed to have that template, though. I'll go through them later this evening, if no one beats me to it till then. --Dirigible 06:00, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
- Differenciation probably has a pseudo-legal reason, but it really isn't a good one. You don't need to label ArenaNet content as their content for NCSoft/ArenaNet to pursue copyright violations against other people if they wanted to. The site license covers everything necessary. I even think it possible that by labeling stuff, maybe erroneously or by not labeling at all, it might be introducing a loophole which might cause the legal problems you are seeking to prevent. --Aspectacle 06:14, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
- This template is not trying to replace Guild Wars Wiki:Copyrights, as it's not saying "we hereby declare this content as non-GFDL". It's aiming elsewhere, its purpose is to simply be informative for the users, to let anyone who may be interested in copying content from the page in question know that it's probably not a good idea to do so, since that entire article isn't GFDL. And those pages are only a handful on the wiki (the Lore ones being the only ones that immediately pop to mind); everywhere else on the wiki ANet content is mixed with GFDL user-generated content. You can find Biro's argument on this at talk:Copyrights#Text. It's probably the appropriate place to bring up disagreement with this template as well, it'll have more visibility there. :) --Dirigible 06:32, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
- K, got rid of all the articles that shouldn't be in the category, hopefully looks a bit more sane now. --Dirigible 01:31, 11 April 2007 (EDT)
