clear class roles[edit]

what are class roles?[edit]

  • damage dealers: those that have as job to do as much damage as possible
  • tanks: those that make sure the enemy attacks them instead of their allies
  • healers: those that fill up the teams health bars
  • support/utility: those that make the job of the healers damage dealers or tanks easier.

This can be done in many ways almost every profession has some utility, utility includes:

  • shutdown (interrupter, domination magic, snares)
  • skills that protect allies (imbagon, protection prayers)
  • conditions like blind, cracked armor, dazed.
  • body blocking (spirits, minions)

context[edit]

When I'm starting to play a new MMORPG I know what class role I want to take, what I don’t always know is what profession (to put it in gw1 terms) I want.

For example (in gw1): I want to make a tank the in game descriptions (in the character creation screen) are fun But they don’t really help, I could check the guild wars manuscripts there it Sais under warrior "...in other word, what many MMO Players call "the tank"..." so I make a warrior, play the warrior through the campaign to get to the end game where I realize that sins and eles are superior tanks. So if I want a tank I would really want the best tank I need to go and make a new character, a sin or ele which I have to lvl and play through the game again (worst case scenario when u finally leveled your new char a balance update can make it infuriate tank again)

Just for the record this isn’t what happened to me (my main is ranger), it’s just the strongest example I could think off… but such stories happen all the time, to a lot of people I would assume and not only in gw (it isn’t that bad cause u can get to the endgame quickly on a second character, but in gw2 I assume whit a higher level cap it would be nice if u could get the char u want from the first time around)

the idea[edit]

Well my idea go's as follows I think that at the release of gw2 or at a point in the development where u feel secure doing so. That u release info on the professions (and races if they get different advantages) on what their class roles will be and how good they will be at their roles.

Example1: I know that I want a dps it doesn’t need to be anything else, then I go check the info on what the best dps class(or more likely classes are)and pick one I like.

Example2: I want a char that that can heal, tank and support because I am not sure jet what I will like most so I go look at the info and pick aclass that can do these 3 things it might not be the best at any of these things.

How such info should look like for example in gw1(ofcourse abit better explained):

best->least good
+-equal/+-equal
  • Damage dealers: ele/mesmer->ranger/war/rit->dervish/sin->necro/para/monk
  • Tanks: sin->ele->war/dervish->monk(55hp)/ranger/paragon
  • Healers: monk->rit->para
  • support: rit->para/necro/monk->mesmer/ranger->sin/war

short version[edit]

I would find it helpful if there was info released on how good a profusion is on a certain class role I would also think its important that if released that the info stayed correct (meaning if u say for example Rit will be the best healer don’t buff monks 3months after the release so that they are better)

Then all is left for me is to tank u all for reading the wall of text, and to request if u have a remark good/bad to post it on the talk page.

notes[edit]

  • there would need to be separate info for pvp (no tanks in pvp for example)
  • the info on gw1 example is my opinion if u disagree that’s besides the point but if u want to discus it anyways leave a note on the talk page.
  • your secondary profession will affect your class roles a lot, but when in the endgame u can easly change ur secondary profession.
  • I don’t know if I used the right catagory (no real clue where something like this should go)
