I have been wondering whether a PvP mode involving multiple teams might work. What I was thinking of is some type of instanced PvP where five teams of ten are put onto one instanced map. Each team would have something that they would need to protect while also trying to destroy or capture various objects or buildings belonging to other teams. A team would not be able to win by simply playing defense though. The winning team would be the team that has the most captures or has destroyed the most of the enemy buildings. To win the game the team who has the most captures or has destroyed the most buildings after a certain time limit would be victorious. A team would also be able to win if all other teams are eliminated. This would be a lot like Alliance Battles from GW1 but would be on a much larger scale. The GW2 dynamic events could also be brought into this form of PvP. For instance during a battle something random could happen such as one team could receive back up randomly from a group of warriors. This could make the game play very exciting because just when a team thinks that they are going to destroy another team's fortress a random event such as the group of warriors may be able to protect the fortress from destruction. If a player was to be defeated while on the battlefield they would simply be sent back to their fortress or any other captured area. If the defeated player's team did not control any type of way point the defeated players could choose to revive with a teammate that is out of combat. If the entire team is defeated then that team is eliminated from the game.
