I will start by saying i am delighted by anet's update regarding chain, and invoke, lightning. and that i neither know much, or even care about pvp. so all this should be considered as pve only suggestions.

however, i have every single ele skill learned on my ele, and with those 2 skills i have yet to have found any sort of air build that comes close to fire's potenial. i spend a lot of time, asking for advice, looking up builds, comparing my builds with others, checking pvx for ideas, and just all-in-all perfecting my ele, so i know my builds are very good. against the master of dmg in the isle of the nameless all of my fire builds, going all out for 62 seconds of casting (one usage of an attunement) average at 45-55 dps. every single air build i have determined either does 46 dps or less, and most of that is single targeting with lightning orb and shock arrow, on top of chain/invoke lightning, so the overall aoe dmg is probably around 20 or less (my computer's hard drive died and i have yet to get a new one or i'd test just those skills myself).

as far as i can tell it is because chain/invoke lightning have too long of recharges (so i'm not constantly aoeing like with fire), and invoke lightning does scarcely more dmg then chain lightning (despite it's elite status).

my solution is, therefore, to further reduce the recharge times of at least invoke lightning, and preferably chain lightning as well. and/or to boost the dmg of invoke (and maybe chain) lightning.

invoke lightning 10 Energy1 Activation time6 Recharge time elite spell. Target foe and up to two (maybe boost to 3) other foes near your target are struck for 30...98...115 lightning damage. This Spell has 25% armor penetration. If you are not under the effects of an Enchantment, this spell causes Exhaustion.

yes i'm aware i reduced the casting time by 1 sec.

and

chain lightning 10 Energy2 Activation time7 Recharge time spell. Target foe and up to two (maybe boost to 3) other foes near your target are struck for 20...76...90 lightning damage. This Spell has 25% armor penetration and causes Exhaustion if you are not enchanted.

a slight boost to dmg. and i intentionally set the skill data at 10 2 7, to be like a air version of firebal.

against a 60 armor target this would produce:

invoke lightning: 149~150 dmg at 15 air and Chain lightning: 116~117 dmg at 15 air

running calculations on it, spamming these two skills would still only produce 35.823529... dps.

comparing that to the 45-55 average of all of the many fire builds i have that would still seem a little low, so i also suggest taking an air skill that currently is not an aoe and make it so, maybe put 3 more seconds on it's recharge and make lightning hammer hit all nearby foes (imo justifying it's enormous energy cost, it'd be like a air version of rodgort's invocation, one would have burning and more base dmg, while the other has armor penetration)

i'm too tired at the moment or i'd calculate the dps of that as well, i'll get to it in the morning if i have the time, but i will get to it as swiftly as possible, then add it to here.
