Feedback:User/Alexarcano/Profession without boundaries

Ok, so far we have all but one of the professions and the last one will be already decided upon in some secret hush-hush 'I-could-tell-you-but-would-have-to-kill-you' way. So. What about a profession that is truly user definable in the add on pack? I'm not sure it would work with the current system of profession and things but in RPG (yes involving pencil and paper and dice) half the fun is breathing life into your character, making them unique and personal to you. Arena Net has gone a bit down this path with the current GW2 character generation and personalisation but there are so many more details and tweeks that make a character more personal.

As an example:

Take a blank canvas.

Choose your Race: A human

Choose sex: Male

(A picture of a human male child appears)

Change appearance (User adjusts appearance)

Choose Familial background/fiscal class (e.g. street, farmer, noble, merchant): Street

(Childs clothes change to reflect this background)

(This opens up new options as to what is available to learn as a youth)

Choose from list of Skills: Melee weapons, Larceny, Running.

Choose what you did in adolescence (e.g. Joined a gang, went to prison, moved to a better area, was apprenticed to a new guardian who was a (choose one) Thief/Necromancer/Elementalist/Warrior/Guardian/Other): Apprenticed to a Warrior.

(This opens a new skill set you have access to by being trained by a Warrior)

Choose Skills: Swords, Spears, Bow, Heavy Armour.

Final adjustments to appearance: (Body size and facial details adjusted)

With this you would have the final skills of:

Pick Pocket (basic, low percentage chance of picking pocket of target),

Melee weapons (basic, no penalties or small bonus to use of knifes, swords etc),

Running (basic, giving small speed bonus in movement out of combat),

Swords (advanced, good damage/to hit bonus ),

Spears (advanced, good damage/to hit bonus ),

Bow (intermediate moderate damage/to hit bonus),

Heavy Armour (advanced, the ability to use heavy armour with no penalties)

This is just a quick 'sketch' of an idea/example of a character generation template, giving skill gradation and fleshing out the character a bit. I guess in a way this is somewhat similar to the primary/secondary professions in GW1. It just means that the current set of professions in GW2 are essentially trained from youth to one specific aim in mind, the most focussed Warrior, Elementalist or whatever has already been created, but this suggested method of character generation introduces a little more flexibility, perhaps a thief who can use minor elemental magic or an Elementalist who can use a pistol. Nothing game changing, just more customisable and personal.

Hope this tickled your imagination a little.
