Hello feedback community! I have a few ideas for possible dungeons that could be implemented into the game. For the sake of having to much to read, I'll just pitch one for now.

The Idea[edit]

Here's what I had come up with: Out in the deep jungle regions of ('future') Tyria, Asuran research groups were sent to conduct projects in seclusion to better prepare themselves for the fight against the ongoing dragon threat. One team was assigned to set up camp in a Mursaat ruin site. It was believed that knowledge gained from researching historical Mursaat magic could be somehow modernized and taught to Asuran elementalists/mesmers/etc to give them an upper hand in battle. Months went by and no word had been received from the camp, thus causing the backers of this project to worry. This is where the player's character or team would be requested to investigate the ruins and search for the research team. After traveling through the jungle and eventually reaching the ruins, the team would stumble upon an almost ghost-town like version of the research camp. By that I mean there are no researchers in sight. The party was lead to believe the camp was located at the base of the ruins and not further in. This would require them to delve deeper into the ruins, thus creating a possible dungeon scenario. Within, the player would encounter beings formed from the surrounding rubble of the ruins, animated to life. These could be humanoid/monstrous/etc forms of the rocks/structures to be used as a new enemy. They would attack the player without provocation, forcing the player to fight back. As the player questions the existence of life within a supposedly abandoned space, they continue to venture further in.

As they continue deeper into the ruin, other forms of the beings appear (this allowing for these creatures to have aesthetic appearances based on the enemy's class) that also attack the player without provocation. Eventually, further in, the player is faced with a trail of corpses belonging to the research team. Each corpse would contain a journal or data device explaining what each fallen member did for the team, journal entries of the days within the ruins, and logs of their findings as their research developed (just to give a little more backstory on the events that took place). The player would find themselves lead to the heart of the ruins where large streams of magical energy can be seen pulsating through its core. On a centralized pedestal in the heart of the ruins stands the lead director of the research team. His body is enveloped in the streams of magical energy and his eyes are lifeless, he is also covered in armor of some sort. The data the player read from the fallen research members would explain that as they studied the ruins they uncovered artifacts from old Mursaat civilizations with dormant powers locked inside. The powers locked away then turn out to be the life force of one ancient Mursaat magician/shaman who lead a pack of Mursaat. Using their technical knowhow of transmiting life into 'Golems' with raw energy, they decided to harness the power within the artifacts to create a suit of armor that contained the combined power of this ancient being. The player then realizes or is notified that the lead director volunteered to test the armor's capabilities and act as its living host (a smiliar concept as the previews we've seen of Asurans entering Golems to control them).

Upon dawning the armor, the director's mind linked with that of the ancient Mursaat being, ultimately discarding most of his mind and reviving whatever Mursaat magician/shaman that lived within the ruins in the past. With the director as its vessel, it saw all other researchers as intruders and sought to rid them from its home. With them defeated, it created the rock-like beings encountered earlier to act as guardians so no one dare intrude. Upon learning this, the player must then fight the 'Mursaat Vessel' (or director) in order to free the director from its control (of course, the assumption upon attacking the 'vessel' is that the director will die along with it, but after killing it the director's mind will return to his body). After defeating the ancient being, the director speaks with the player and informs them of how he was aware the entire time and apologizes for attacking them. Maybe some script thrown in could be:

Director: "I cannot thank you enough for releasing me from that... thing's control. It.. it left a part of me intact when it took host of my body. I was forced to witness the massacre of my team... the memory will haunt me for as long as I live." Player: "I'm sorry, I cannot understand what that must be like." Director: "Regardless of the things I was forced to do, there is.. one outcome of this that ends on a slightly more positive note. While the ancient power held control, the part of me it left in-tact allowed me to explore its mind and uncover the root of its power. I believe with some modifications to the armor, I can create a working prototype that will block out any form of control that the being's power may attempt to inflict. I could not send it back to my fellow Asurans though for fear of this happening again, but I would like to offer it to you as a reward for doing the impossible."

The Result[edit]

This is where a new armor set could be implemented into the game (or at least an enchantment/insignia/and so on) that is given as a reward to the player. Of course, it would be fitted to match whichever race's style of armor that was to acquire it. Other items such as a unique weapon or consumables could be added as well. And if a "free" armor set is out of the question, some text could be added in about how the director would need some materials to create the armor since the team used up their remaining materials creating the first set. This would obviously allow the 'collect materials and gold to craft armor' function to still be in place. The director would then be located for players who have finished the mission outside of the ruins so he can be revisited once the materials/gold have been gathered. The director then convinces the player not to inform whomever came to them for help of the team's status. He asks that they report that the team was not found within the ruins and that no effort should be given to find them (or something less unbelievably harsh).

Possible Implication Method[edit]

Since the release date of Guild Wars 2 is so close at hand, I had wondered if the team had considered future 'Dungeon Packs' as some download-able content. If so, that could be use to implement this and other dungeon ideas into the game (if people like this idea of course).

Thanks for reading![edit]

Aaaaand... That's it.. well it's a pretty rough idea, but if it sounds interesting I'd still love some feedback! I'm not entirely certain of the lore and connection between the Asurans and the Mursaat, but I do remember the Asura being located near Mursaat territory in GW:EOTN. Hope you have a great day and thank you for taking the time to read this.
