Create a publicly available XML feed containing a variety of useful information, mainly current trader buy/sell prices but could be thorough enough to include current statistic for players (such as level, race, professions and miscellaneous information such as time spent in game, skill levels, achievements/titles and so on). If privacy is a concern (though it wouldn't really share much more information than the current Hall of Monuments Calculator), users could be given the opportunity to opt out of data collection.
This will allow community development of a huge amount of useful web applications such as:
- Market analytics which would give a fascinating and useful insight into the ingame economy in the short and long term
- Fully customisable signatures for forums/community sites
- A much higher level of integration between the game and community resources such as this wiki
- Other smaller, useful tools such as:
- Calculators for checking immediately how much it would currently cost to craft Armour/Weapons at current resource prices
- Calculators for calculating fair trade prices for resources, for example how much wood it would be fair to trade for 75 stone
- Powerful checking/searching/sorting/bookmarking of auction house items (though I'm admittedly unsure how this will be handled in-game)
- Many other rich web applications that I can't even begin to think of (suggestions more than welcomed on the discussion page :D)
Essentially, would give willing developers an incredible resource to show their creativity. Bandwidth usage could be kept low by limiting requests per hour and not caching any content (data would be stored in DBs dev-side).
