Feedback:User/Brother Albus/system to gain third class

i just added a bunch of ideas that would fit in with my topic so any reference to other peoples ideas is (completely unintentional)

  • also viable for original guild wars

i would like to start by asking straight out for any GW2 devs to comment on whether the idea of adding the possibility to gain a third class would even be up for consideration,

the base of my idea come from the fact that most people spec in only 1-3 skill pools and dont ever bother with the ~8 others (ie; my E/x uses 7 air mastery skills and one energy storage) so all those extra attribute points are wasted (since cap is 20(w/o runes or head gear) so i figure why not make a quest set that after which one can choose to "forget" a number of skill pools in exchange for learning say 10 skills and 1 elite skill in one skill pool from a third class

the idea could be carried further by having another quest which will allow you to change your "primary" to that of any skill pool you have kept

(ie; say you have a warrior elementalist mesmer, and you choose to keep sword mastery, air mastery, energy storage, and chose illusion since you dont want to use strength, you could then decide to take the obvious choice and make energy storage your primary

im quite sure theres some balance issues in doing so but the choice would be completely the users fault and thus shouldnt be too much of an issue other than the typical gripes on the forums and ingame, which would be met with the typical response of "why'd you do that?!" though it greatly adds to "immersion" and adds some room for personalizing and tactical reasoning

also im sure people are thinking that would just be to cheap to do a few quests and be able to revamp your whole character, but im not talking 2-3 quests at beginning or after "ascention", im talking about 10-20 quests from the beginning till ascention (with no xp or item rewards)

quests could be themed as an apprenticeship, where you visit specialized trainers for each skill pool you want to keep, each trainer you visit makes you forget 1-2 skill pools in order to specialize in their skill set,(to become stronger in one skill you must let go of another) eventually you progress through the game forget about 5-8 skill pools and you reach the "ascention" quest (the one that allows you to change secondary class) at which point you get to choose between changing your secondary class as you could in GW1 or having a one time chance to change your secondary and seek further knowledge by taking up a third class the profession changer sets you off to seek a hermit who then sends you on a 2-4 quest chain to learn your chosen skill pool from your chosen 3rd class

adding to specialization you could also add epic skill(s) for every skill pool adding to changing your primary pool, if you are able to change primaries and have specialized in at least three pools you gain 2 skill slots giving you a max of 10 skills on your skill bar

  • notes
  1. specializing is optional but if you choose to forget a skill pool you cant relearn it even if you change secondaries (could add retrain tokens)
  2. you must forget at least 2 pools in order to change your primary pool(2 pools must remain forgotten and cant be relearned (if made available)
  3. you must have 5 or less skill pools (of 10) in order to gain the third class
  4. you dont get the epic skill for your third class
  5. changing your secondary class before taking a third means you will have to go back and do the specialization quests for that class to continue
  6. the choice to either change secondaries freely or take up a third class only comes up once and should have a minimum of 2 confirmations
  7. you only get 10 skills and 1 elite for your chosen third class skill pool, but you get to pick and choose from any skill in the pool(no unlock needed)
  8. if you have 10 slots you can have 1 elite and 1 epic skill but not 2 of either
  • this would add
  1. a "third class"
  2. 1 specialization trainer for every skill pool
  3. x epic skills for each skill pool
  4. 1 hermit for every class
  5. x related quests
  6. 2 skill slots
  7. 1 rememberance token vendor
