Suggested Changes[edit]

  • Make all drops from chests in hard mode max damage gold drops. ( Explanation 1 below )
  • Eliminate or significantly reduce basic weapon skins from hard mode chests. ( Ex. PVP Reward Items Categories: Basic, Fancy, Exotic )( Explanation 1 below )
  • Increase value of weapon parts and inscriptions at the merchant. ( Explanation 1 below )
  • Create weapon parts and inscriptions trader ( like rare materials trader or rune trader ) ( Explanation 1 below )
  • Make the lock-pick retention rate in hard mode equal or better than the normal mode retention rate especially if drop quality isn't increased ( Explanation 2 below )
  • Make all hard mode chest drops and hard mode drops inscribable in Prophecies and Factions. ( Explanation 3 below )
  • Make all drops solely for human players. No more drops for heros or henchman. ( Explanation 4 below )
  • Make drops equally divided or designated for all human players in party. ( Explanation 4 below )
  • Remove all keys from the game ( except keys like Zaishen Keys ). Lock-picks used instead. ( Explanation 5 below )
  • Merchant in Guild Hall will give 10% discount on goods. Similar to 20% discount in owned Factions outposts. It would also be fine if this was implemented that the merchant costs 100k instead of 25k. ( Explanation 6 below )
  • Make all drops area specific. ( Like the Shadow Shield is to FOW or the Shadow Axe is to DOA )( Explanation 7 below )

1. When you run around opening chests in hard mode the quality of the drops doesn't justify the significantly reduced lock-pick retention rate. Not only is it harder to get to the chests but you are at least twice as likely to break your lock-pick. This usually ends up meaning that I waste 1 Platinum per chest after sale of the generally crappy golds or purples I get from the chest to the merchant. It would somewhat make up for lose of the 1+ Platinum per lock-pick if a Weapons Parts and Inscriptions Trader was added to the game. This would create descent values for rare weapons parts and Inscriptions that would help to make up for the expense of the lock-picks used and lost towards this title.

2. The gold drops ( currency ) from Foes are also very pathetic and certainly don’t make up the difference of the cost of the lock-picks on top of all that I have to split my gold drops with my heros....why? Do they buy their own Runes, Insignias, Weapons, Armour pieces, consumables, etc... NO! I have to buy all that for them and yet give up 7/8 of my loot to them also. Talk about making the game unnecessarily painful! If none of this is going to change then I suggest that either the quality of the drops out of hard mode chests be drastically increased and/or the retention rate become equal or better then Normal Mode drops.

3. I also suggest that all drops from chests either with lock-picks or with lock-picks in hard mode should be inscribable in ALL campaigns. This severely limits the amount of areas worth farming for chests making farming even more painful then necessary. If I am to lose my 1500 gold lock-picks most of the time and the gold rate drops are to still be poor then at the very least make the items from Prophecies and Factions inscribable. This would greatly increase the areas worth vanquishing and greatly reduce the monotony of farming the same areas over and over again. Farming 10,000 chests for the Treasure Hunter title is a very painful request and is effectively one of the worst and most time consuming titles out there. It is a title that should realistically be started in the very beginning of the game so that the remainder of your playing isn't pointlessly farming boards for chests. With an average of 5 chests per board (some boards are as little as 1 which shouldn't be) it will take at least 2000 boards to max this title. This may be feasible from the beginning but since gold drops and gold acquisition are extremely poor this becomes impossible. A player then has to prioritize and spend gold on immediate needs and effectively shoot themselves in the foot in the future. They will end farming boards solely for chests that they couldn't afford to open with lock-picks in the beginning of the game in the first place. This is forced grind.

4. Opening chests is actually one of the exciting treats a game can offer but GW has managed to make exciting become painful. Thankfully there are easy ways to fix this and I very much hope this happens for everybody’s sake. I would suggest that the easiest way to make opening chests from the beginning possible is to increase the gold drop ( currency ) rates. This can even be done by just giving all drops for heros and henchman to all of the human players. Effectively in my opinion 1 human player running with 7 heros/henchman should be equivalent to soloing as far as drops are concerned. In my opinion GW doesn’t want any body to solo because they always nerf any class that can do this so this would fit logically with ArenaNet's wishes. Soloing should be 1 human player plus Heros/Henchman. All drops should be given to the human player/s divided only by the number of human players regardless of who has the heros. This would effectively increase a drop of 100 gold that is realistically 13 or 14 gold to 100 gold. A player would accumulate gold up to 8 times faster and would then be able to afford all the necessities in the game at the appropriate times that they should afford them. There would be no reason to go back to farm a few boards thousands of times because the player had to spend the money on other necessities like weapons, armor, signets of capture, consumables, sweets, alcohol, party items etc...

5. I feel a basic and relatively easy change like this would add a tremendous amount of enjoyment into the game and this is a win win for both GW players and ArenaNet. Low level chests shouldn't need to be changed. They have higher retention rates and in my opinion this justifies the crap that comes out of them and this would only affect normal mode anyways. I would also remove all keys from the game as they don't have a real purpose if lock-picks became affordable. Key drops could be replaced with lock-pick drops in normal and hard modes.

6. I would also like to see a benefit similar to the 20% off merchant prices that is gained by an alliance owning a factions outpost in a guilds' guild hall. Since you have to purchase the merchant for a rather hefty price for your guild hall you would expect that you could at least get something in between like a 10% discount from your guild hall merchant. This would give guild halls a point outside of PVP. I feel guild halls are drastically underused for players or guilds that concentrate mainly or solely on PVE.

7. Finally another important change I would like to see regarding chests and even monster drops would be to have the pool of drops greatly reduced and adjusted to the specific areas you are in. I should only receive underworld styled items from the underworld and should not receive these items from any other area. I should only receive factions specific items from factions and not items from prophecies or nightfall or EoTN and so on for all campaigns. All elite dungeons and areas should have specific drops related to them that create a special reason for a player to frequent them. There should be an incentive for going to those areas and that incentive should definitively include the drops. I would even go as far to say that the drops in Ascalon should be different from the drops in Kryta or the Maguuma Jungle and etc..etc.. I know that some skins are game wide but I would find an area to designate them to. I would take all skins in the game and split them up by areas so that they only drop in those areas from this point forward. I would also make it so that perfect versions of these skins are only available through hard mode or trade. I believe this would give new life to areas of the game that receive almost no traffic because there is almost no reason to ever go out there.

I would absolutely love to see all of these changes made to GW and I am sure many would also agree. This game should be fun and rewarding...and yes even the titles too! Many titles could be improved by simply increasing gold drop rate and adjusting chest drops. These changes would significantly reduce the amount of stress involved in playing the this game especially with the intent of playing the game fully by maxing the titles.
