Reviving Codex[edit]

Codex started as a nice idea a sealed deck format for pvp wich anet labeled as 'win!'. Seeing Codex is pretty much entirly abandoned it should be obvious that Codex is not Win! but Fail!.

Instead of receiving random skills with hardly any logic of selection behind it is very difficult to even create a half decent build wich is one of the problems in poses and makes it quite annoying, wanting to pvp in a 4vs4 team format but being unable to take a good build with you.

Second problem it poses is the obvious gladiatior rank discrimination that came with it. When good builds are not available to use people will look for players with experience to be able to win, similar to the old ursan discrimination. During that time the 3 norn elites got changed and the discrimination ended, in Condex however no sollution was offered to it.

And coming as third Codex didn't offer any good reward for the trouble it is giving to the players so it is now abandoned and a good idea has been doomed to failure because it is incorrectly carried out.

To make it played again i have two ideas.

Keeping the sealed deck format style

Instead of giving players random skills give players random builds instead similar to costume brawl. Give them a list of around 5 or 6 builds that each profession can choose from every 24-48 hours offered randomly of around 60 different builds total for each profession. I know you guys can be pretty creative with builds seeing the skills of the Peacekeepers and the White Mantle in War in Kryta, so creating a decent ammount of bars for codex and like the henchmen skillbar contest you can always ask for the help of players with the criteria that any form of meta build or even one that looks similar to it are forbidden, so they have to be original (unlike the builds that the PvP henchmen now have).

With this as option players are able to take good builds while still keeping it random and rank discrimination will be less likely to occur and it will require less balancing and restricting.

second idea: a complete format overhaul.

Instead of a PvP format with the resriction of random skills let players go all out against eachother not with normal skills but being restricted to elite skills only. Give all players a set ammount of health of 1000 and all of their attributes to 20 regardless of their primary and secondary profession. Nullify the effects of runes, insignias, and weapon modifications (so no +30 health from fortitudes or 20% longer enchantments or shorter casting time or recharge). Let players combat eachother with the strongest skills they have in an all out match of sheer power and creativity.

With this option you won't have to bother much about balancing or restricting as well and allows players to still create diverse builds since they can use secondary profession skills to their fullest excluding the primary attribute elites. Since it has a skill limitation but still being able to create builds as you desire and with the sheer power of the elite skills you can take rank discrimination will also be alot less likely to occur amongt players nor being annoyed of being unable to make good builds for themselfs.

Well these are the suggestions i have to revive Codex, give it a thought and enjoy discussions on the feedback page about it.Damysticreaper 19:18, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
