Crafting[edit]
- Try out some non-intrusive mini-games to augment crafting schematic discovery and add a similar mini-game device for crafting experimentation
- The mini-games would not be involved in the typical crafting procedure, only in the mush less repeated experimentation and schematic discovery
- Adding experimentation in the game is an easy way to greatly vary crafted items results, increase player-involvement in crafting, yet still keep reins on the possible range of item stats
- Experimentation could also engaged via a consumable which would create another gold/gem sink or be both a combination of purchasable experimentation kits or craftable experimentation kits.
- Resource and schematic quality differentiation
- Wouldn't just add modifiers to the end crafting product
- Could be used as a modifier to the critical success/failure of the crafting discovery/experimentation mini-games
- IE. Using high-quality ingredients and a "blueprint" (lootable, tradeable, and gemable) in a schematic discovery minigame could make the game a little easier and there-by increase the chance of a critical success
- The same factors above plus the quality of the resulting learned schematic would go into the success rate of a crafted item experimentation mini-game.
- Thereby skill would still be involved (minigame) while simply allowing the difficultly of the minigame to be governed by the resource quality if you wanted to remove any "die-roll" factor. Could split the effects, by having the quality of the discovered schematic affect the base stats of all items crafted by that schematic, while the quality of the resources for that particular item affect the experimentation variables; also, vice-versa.
- Since the game isn't particularly loot-based, you could even use experimentation and schematic quality to affect appearance tweaks like additional dye slots or some trinkets/doo-dads
- In order to control the rarity of the higher-quality resources, you could also add a minigame to up-convert lower-quality resources.
