Guild Wars Alpha had a mailbox like system which was removed in the final version.
I/We (the players) would like to see the mailbox system readded in GW2.
This way if you do not know the other player(s) email, chat, etc address you can send them either a offline, or online message.
If its online it should be notified in the same way you get private messages. E.G. You have (1) new message from player player name.
This is useful for guild leaders, and players in a guild as its a nice and easy to use message system. (E.G. You have been kicked from guild due to inactivity, if you want back in please reply).
Its also useful for ArenaNet to use if there is a major in game problem, as a message could be easily sent (and seen) by users online, and for users who want to check it out after they have logged out.
Finally its useful for users who are online at different times of the day, as its a form of a in-game email message.
Although the serious drawback is the potential mass spam issues, so it should be switchable to Users I have interacted with+users on my friends lists+arenanet.
This should be limited to in-game only and if a user needs to email a user it could be attached to the player ID as suggested in the other suggestions.
