One of the things that bothers me about minis is that they have no real function. This is not limited only to Guild Wars but to most MMO's, where the primary function of a mini/companion is to be a fun collectable. However it ends up becoming a status symbol in all games, the rarer the mini the higher the status. So the idea is to give those Minis a purpose other than walking around the player making noise, that was fine for the game seen 6 years ago but GW2 is the next evolution of online gaming.

Now Mini's Could have minor to major abilities in game, such as a white mini doing a function like singing, dancing, and being entertaining. A purple could have a function like warning a player of an incoming attack or scouting around for gathering items like herbs. A gold could be a gatherer itself, but only if the player can gather that item. Or a gold could carry a bag, starting with a single 5 slot bag that can be upgraded by the player. Now Green mini's because they are the rarest deserve an actual combat purpose, the green mini could be summoned out into battle for 30 seconds executing attacks the monster its based on uses. This would allow for a greater number of green minis anything from a pig to a dragon, they would have a cool down that varies from 30 min to 3 hours based on power and would be banned from pvp. Green Minis should also share a cool down in between uses so they couldn't be spammed, such as 5 min in between uses.

This would give players a reason to carry minis around with them into the field. Examples of mini abilities could include: -Acting as a mobile campfire or forge. -Growing herbs on their backs/bodies. -Gathering for a player, with a limited range. -Acting like a scout allowing a player to see far off in the distance. -Alerting a player to danger, other players, or even chests. -Acting like a parachute when a player jumps off a cliff.

Another idea for the minis would be that a player could capture them in the field, boss creatures would have a low chance to drop a shard, say 50 shards when combined together create a mini signet. That signet could capture monsters in the field once they're defeated, the monster would become a mini of a random color and have an ability assigned from a set list. That list would be based off of the monsters type, color of the mini, and strength of the monster defeated. Not all Monsters could be captured(like the shatter), this would give minis a greater value to players then they have now and players would be more attached to them. A player would also only be allowed a single mini out at a time, this would prevent unfair advantages.

This would also add a new element to the market place, because anyone could farm minis the market on them would gain stability.
