PvP Portal Functionality[edit]
With the preview of the Mesmer skill Portal I started thinking about its use in PvP. It'd have great potential for controlling ground area, but there's a few things I would view as essential for them to work competitively.
- Opponents cannot see portals. Otherwise they'll be avoided.
- Limit one person at a time in a portal, and a short cool down. Prevent them from becoming overpowered because of reason 1. Don't want everyone getting snared and DPS without a chance.
- Color code portals so that coordination will be much more simple. Even more so without third party software such as Team Speak or Ventrillo.
- Click to use functionality. Makes 1 more effectively hidden and 2 more simple.
- High ground/Low ground. While I'd assume this works, but with the new Z-axis it's even more important to maintain control in 3 dimensional space.
Mechanics for Portal Functionality[edit]
It might be nice to have a separate camera window for the user to see what's going on at a portal prior to use. Since there's a click to use functionality, maybe have a camera window open on walking over the portal.
