Introduction[edit]

This idea is about contribution and cooperation between players in order to have an Elite skill that gives a lot of power, some advantages to the players, and while uses the idea of cross skill combos.

I thought about doing an Elite skill that needs some kind of contribution to the caster player in order for him to do a big and really strong skill.

The sidekicks to such an important skill to be so powerfull would be if the players that contribute (including the caster) lose something, but they get rewarded by that skill when it's successful too. There could be contribution by doing some kind of pray (like they do with the reviving), or do some kind of energy transfer (by doing energy skills, like magic or support, that influence the caster). When the elite skill is successfully done, it can trigger something awesome that will give some advantage to the players (of the same side in PVP).

Contribution[edit]

About the ways of contribution from other players to the caster, there are at least 2 different ways it could be implemented:

  1. All nearby players would have an additional skill/button to chose whether they want to contribute or not.
  2. All players can contribute by doing their usual skills on the caster, whether those skills are for damage, control or support. Ex: A warrior uses a damage skill on the caster and, instead of doing nothing (as we see now in GW2, because it's "friendly attack"), it would absorb the damage from the skill made by the warrior as contribution.

Examples[edit]

Example 1: Each class has it's unique "ultimate" Elite Skill. As an example, an Elementalist wants to do a skill called "Solar Explosion" - it creates a massive ball of fire magic around him in order to cast an explosion in the area around him. If he doesn't get any contribution, the explosion around him is very short. If he gets some contribution of power from other players, the explosion is bigger and the more contribution the bigger it gets (untill a certain limit of course). After the explosion, there's fire on the ground below the previeous explosion for some time which would allow players to use it with other skills in order to cross skills, and the fire would do some damage to the enemies that are in touch with it. Cons: This skill takes some time to cast and it makes the caster player incapable of doing any damage/supportive skills (only movement skills), and it has a long cooldown, which makes this skill very good at damage but hard to be succesfull (it might get interrupted by other attacks with conditions or by dieing lol).

Example 2: Each race has it's unique "ultimate" Elite Skill too. Giving and example for the Sylvari. This skill, let's call it "Call for Nature", works the same way as the above. When this skill is succesfull, the Sylvari would create an Oakheart by touching the ground and it would work like a War monster (like we see in movies like Lord Of The Rings with the giant mamute beasts) that would have it's own life. The more the contribution of other players to cast it, the harder it gets to kill. The cons are the same as the above. How it would give an advantage to the player around it? Easy, it can catch the enemies with its roots like it does to us players when we attack one Oakheart mob. (I don't know if having the summoned Oakhart beeing controlled by the caster is a good idea for balance. Maybe it could only attack the enemies and stay some distance away from the caster).

Of course, this is just me thinking about 2 possible ways of doing it. I'm sure with enough creativity it could get a lot of better variations.

Purposes and Conclusion[edit]

The third purpose for this skill is because it might be a completely different gameplay to give players the option to have a riskier but deadlier gameplay.

The second good purpose for this kind of skills is to have skills that might be the turning point in combat while suggesting for more cooperation between players, in order to get great damade effects from only 1 person skill, protect the caster untill he gives an extremely high damage skill (he only needs protection for this skill, so it wouldn't become a role, only a different tactic choice, like those sports teams that chose to be more defensive and have a really dangerous counter-attack) and still give some kind of advantage from it (wether it would be supportive, controlling or with more damage, and even considering how to cross skills with the advantages).

The main purpose is, of course, it would be really awesome to do "super" skills with the help of our comrades, like we see sometimes in animes and novels where some characters get their friends energy in order to become stronger for an ultimate attack.
