Coast Fractal[edit]

In this fractal, players will defend themselves on the voyage from the Battle Isles to Tyria.

Objectives

- Repel the Attack
- Defeat First-Mate Pete
- Pilot the ship safely towards Lion's Arch.
- Defeat the Risen Battleship

Walkthrough[edit]

This fractal is relatively broken into two parts; most of the first part will have players engaging enemies with their own skills, and the second part has them mostly using weapon skills. This is not a hard and fast rule by any means, but describes the general tone of the fractal.

- Repelling the Attack

Players will begin this fractal below decks on a ship. Once players make their way to the upper deck, the fractal starts proper.

Players will find themselves in the midst of a battle on a fairly large ship; there will be various sailor allies fighting pirate foes. These pirates are of mixed classes, but in general will have two skills players will need to look out for; they are able to immobilise players and allies by throwing nets, and they are able to drink potions which will make them invulnerale for a few moments. Besides this, they act like normal pirates encountered in Tyria.

To complete this section, players will need to clear the foes from the lower deck, which will clear the fighting up both stairs to the wheel, and the mini-boss that awaits them.

The mini-boss, First-Mate Pete (a champion), will use similiar attacks to the various foes, but with the three extra skills. One, he will tie a player randomly to the mast, where they will need to be rescued. Two, He will drink two potions at once, causing his invulnerablity to last for slightly longer. Three, he will use and throw bombs are the group, one at a time. These will knock the players back and deal an amount of damage, but like any area effect, can be moved or dodged out of.

Once the first mate is down, the chest will appear in the center of the ship. Unlike most chests, this one will despawn once it is used by all parties, and the next section will activate.

- Pilot the Ship to Lion's Arch

This section is vastly different from the previous; players will need to choose one person to steer the ship, one person to man the crow's nest, and one at each of the three sets of weapons; at the front of the ship, and one both sides.

General gameplay for this section goes like so. The player in the crow's nest will have a much bigger sight range, allowing him or her to target things a long way off. This player will also be able to direct the NPC crew to jump across to nearby ships. The player at the ships wheel will control the direction and speed of the ship, but little else. Each of the players at the guns will be able to fire at the enemy, however will only fire one gun at a time; they will have to run between them to fire everything on one side.

Basically, in this section players will need to navigate down the coast towards Lion's Arch, which will be in a roughly forward direction to where the players have spawned in. Players will encounter various Pirate ships, which can be avoided or fought. Each ship will have it's own health bar, and can be easily bombarded into non-existance if that is preferred, or if players get close enough, they'll be able to jump across to the opposing ship and clear it as they would any other area; killing the captain of the ship will cause it to veer off course slightly and despawn when it gets out of view. Any player who falls in the water around any ship will be able to climb back on by clicking rigging attached to the side; the player will respawn in the edge of the boat.

Once players reach the outskirts of Orr, a Risen battleship will spawn, forming the boss fight for this fractal.

- Defeat the Risen Ship

The battle with the risen ship will be slightly more chatotic tehn previous sections.

Players will need to not only watch out for bombardment from the Risen ship, but will have to watch out for both smaller rafts making their way out towards the players ship, and the "globes" the Risen ship will fire at the ship. These globes will spawn a group of Risen on impact, no matter where they fall. Enterprising players may be able to shatter the globes mid-flight, dropping the spawn in the ocean.

Once Players reduce the ship to 10% health, it will attempt to ram the players ship, which will cause players to be downed if it hits. Once either the ship has rammed the players ship or is sunk by the players, the fractal will stablise and the chest will spawn near the back of the boat, behind the player on the wheel.

Achievement

Loot and Plunder - Open the hidden chest on each pirate ship in the fractal.
