Desert Fractal[edit]

In this fractal, players will travel through the crystal desert before it appeared in Guild Wars, and must either attempt to stop and/or survive the use of the ancient weapon, or protect a priest as she ascends one of the towers to read the people's petition to the gods themselves.

Objectives

- Explore your surroundings.
- (1) Escort the Aging Priestess to her sermon.
- (2) Defend the Holy Site
- Defeat the Heretic Leader
- Survive the Ancient Weapon's Activation

Walkthrough[edit]

Players will begin just outside the city, standing next to a signpost, on the outskirts of the city. Once they move closer, players will be met by either one of two chracters; the Master of Ceremonies, or the Captain of the guard will run up to them, leading them onwards to one of two pathways, as detailed below.

(1) Escort the Ageing Priestess

Players will be drawn behind a pair of large doors, and hurriedly told that the Priestess must be escorted up the final couple of floors, for her own safety.

In this section, players will need to escort the NPC as she wanders slowly across three floors of the tower; including the stairs. Whilst they follow her, players will be set upon by two different enemies; Lingering Doubt, which are the most numerous and once killed will respawn after a brief interval, and the stronger Skeptical Thoughts.

Both of these enemies will effectively ignore the player; they will move towards the Priestess slowly, and whenever they get within range will use a touch skill. If this skill successfully lands, they will despawn and cause a small amount of damage (1% and 5% for the Doubts and Thoughts respectively, which scales with fractal level) to the Priestess, who will cower for a moment. Players nearby will be knocked down briefly.

Once you reach the upper floor, a last enemy, Test of Faith, will spawn amoungst the group; this enemy will do 50% damage if it touches the Priestess, but is relatively easy to dispatch, and will spawn near the stairs as she gets close to the balcony.

The players will be directed to stand on the balcony behind the Priestess.

(2) Defend the Holy Site

Players will be drawn off towards the entrance to the city.

In this section, players will need to defend the capture points from groups of Unholy Raiders, which are of mixed abilities.

Initially, this is a simple task, as the groups will target only one side, but after the third group smaller groups will target both sides at once. As the capture will slowly reset if enemies are cleared (allied Soldier NPC's will rush in to defend the spot), focus on moving between the groups. After the fifth wave, a large group will overrun both positions, and players will be drawn back to a third point in the centre of the two. Simply clear the group from this section to proceed.

Defeat the Heretic Leader

The player will be notified when this section begins as the sermon the Priestess is giving will be cut short.

Players on the balcony will be motioned back the way they came, as groups of Heretics spawn inside the building they've been through. Players in the courtyard will be motioned to the opposite side of the courtyard, to clear a spawn point. Both paths will lead to the middle of the courtyard, which is cleared of people jusr prior to this section, and a group of Heretics.

This fairly large group is mostly non-elites, with the Heretic Leader being a champion creature. The Heretics have no extra skills then what they've displayed before, but the Heretic leader is the one to watch out for. He holds the sparkling box. Engaging him is fairly standard, with three attacks except for his auto attack.

The first one he will cast at seemingly random intervals, where he will mark one of the Heretics and run up towards them. If he manages to touch them, they will die, but he will gain a beserk buff for a few seconds. The second he will cast only if he is surrounded, which will be to push the characters back and the closest Heretics in towards him; this skill is a shout, and easily noticable. The third skill he will cast at pre-determined intervals (50% and 25% for lower level fractals, more frequently as you get higher) where he channel a spell much like the elementalists' Ring of Earth skill. Whilst the blast will do negligible damage to players, any Heretics in the field will be killed, and he will gain 5% health for each Heretic killed this way.

Once the Heretic Leader reaches 10%, he will drop the box and begin to channel a skill. At this point, players have 20 seconds (which shortens the higher up the fractals you venture) to lose line of sight with the Heretic Leader. Once the skill is fully channelled, a white light will explode from the box, killing any remaining Heretics, and defeating any players caught in the blast.

With this, the fractal will be stabalized.

Achievement

Blind Faith - Do not let a single Lingering Doubt, Skeptical Thought or Test of Faith touch the Ageing Priestes whilst escorting her in the Desert Fractal.esert Fractal.
