Walkthrough[edit]
Once players enter this fractal they will find themselves just inside a library, with the doors to their backs. In front of them they will see a wall of books, with the head of a statue of Abaddon peaking out above them. Attacking this wall starts the fractal.
- - Break through the Wall of Tomes
This section of the fractal is fairly simple. Players simply need to attack the wall of books in front of them. There are two things to beware of however.
Firstly, every few hits will cause books to fall out of the wall. Wherever they land they will cast random feilds or lines (such as Fire Feilds, or Lines of Warding). Also, at every 15% health that the wall loses, a variable number of foes will spawn. These will be various elementals, and will act like their Tyrian counterparts.
Once the wall is down, all spawned elementals and feilds will dissapate, allowing players to move on.
Players will then need to make their way into the main area. Once they reach the statue Dessa will appear and explain about the distabilisation being behind the locked doors, and that they require three keys. Players will then be sent to find those keys.
- - Track down the Errant Gatekeepers
Note, players may complete these in any order they wish.
- - (1) Scale the High Shelves
To begin this section, players will need to jump across several stacks of books to the west of the statue, taking them into the Stacks area.
Players will be confronted first and foremost with several rows of high shelves, in various states of disrepear. This area functions mostly as a jumping puzzle, with several Disgruntled Librarians. These enemies will be mainly spellcasters, and will react to the player by attacking. The main thing to worry about, besides falling off the puzzle area, is for the books they will occassionally throw at players. These will create a random spell or feild as with the wall.
Midway through the puzzle players will find themselves on the top of a collapsing bookshelf. From here on out, several books will fall from further above the players as well as being thrown by the foes within the library. Once players reach the ladders that make the end of the puzzle, they will find the Errant Gatekeeper, reading to himself.
To get his key, players will need to bring him down to intervals of 25% health (75%, 50% or 25%) depending on how many of the Gatekeepers have already been defeated. This gatekeeper will not set out to harm players, but will instead try and make them fall to their deaths by using knockback skills. Any player who falls will be revived a short distance away. Once the Gatekeeper is down to the required health, he will drop his key and run through an entrance behind him to the central room. Players may easily follow.
- - (2) Survive the Lost Wing
To begin this section, players will need to make their way through the broken door to the east. Across a short courtyard later they will find themselves in the Lost Wing.
As with the high stacks, players will see themselves in an area with rows and rows of books, however this section will be longer and relatively flat. Players will need to make their way through the corridors. Players will find Disgruntled Librarians here as well, but these will use random spells from any profession that their weapon allows them access to (for example, one weilding an axe would have access to weapon skills from the Ranger and Warrior weilding an axe.) Other then these enemies, players will need to watch out for bookshelves falling towards them. Some of these will block the players progress, causing them to be rerouted. Any players caught under these will be teleported back to the entrance of the wing.
At the end of the pathway, players will find this sections' Errant Gatekeeper. This boss is slightly tricky, in that she will only use Elite spells available to any profession or race. Whilst many of these are relatively harmless, spells such as the Whirlwind (from the elementalist) will cause books to get thrown about the playfield, creating random spells everywhere.
Once players get the Gatekeeper down to the required health (as explained above) the Gatekeeper will move a stack of books to allow easy access to the main corridor.
- - (3) Spelunk the Murky Waters
To begin this section, players will need to head to the partially submerged section below where they knocked down the Wall of Tomes.
This section occurs mainly underwater. Like the previous sections, players will find books floating around, unlike the previous sections however, these will activate when players get close to them. As players traverse this section, they will find several enemies, mainly fish. They will find Disgruntled Librarians as before, but these will move players into range of the books by pushing, sinking or pulling them rather then throwing them at players. Beyond this, they are relatviely harmless.
Players will move through two sections which are above water in ruined sections of the library. In these sections it is important to watch the water, as the Librarians may pull players into them from below, forcing players to make the long way back. Once players reach a third pocket of air, they will encounter the Errant Gatekeeper. This Gatekeeper will fight like the others, however will move between the air and the water, where he can use any skill that a player could underwater, reguardless of weapon. The only other thing to look out for is the books that will appear in both the water and out. Once he has reached the required % health, he will activate a staircase up to the entranceway, and players can follow him for easy access back.
- - Pacify Count Zerai
Once all three Gatekeepers have been defeated, they will open the doors and run to the exit of the building, leaving the way to the Count open. There is a short passage between the main area and the boss, which will have several of the books spawn. Simply avoid these before moving into the area.
The boss itself is fought in two phases; firstly, he will run around the room, pulling books off of the shelves. Whilst every third one will work like the others in the fractal, the other two will spawn shadow monsters of varying shapes and sizes. These are mostly weak versions of the enemies you would encounter within the explorable world, with the exception of the Oni, who will despawn on hit and be replaced with a regular Oni. These will shadowstep between players, and will deal large amounts of damage before despawning. If they are not attacked within a few seconds of the shadow version spawning, they will simply despawn.
One players get the Count down to 50% health, he will become invulnerable and run towards the centre of the room, where he was encountered when players entered the room. After a brief exchange, he will summon a pair of hounds to his side. These hounds can be downed like any normal enemy, however they will repawn at the same location 10 seconds after they are downed. Players will also be physically shrunk for this section, however their damage will not be effected.
Players will deal damage to the boss by damaging him normally, but will need to watch his animations carefully. When he blows the horn, players will have 5 seconds to "hide", by moving out of line of sight with the boss and his hounds. For the next 5 seconds after this, the boss will be invulnerable to damage and will move about the area. Any player found by any of the enemies will be instantly downed, but if none are found within this period, the boss and his hounds will be stunned for 5 seconds.
Once players bring the boss down to 10% he will no longer revive his hounds, and will gain a damage buff. Once players defeat the boss the fractal will stablize.
