Vanishing Fractal (Utopia)[edit]

In this fractal, players will attempt to navigate the vanishing island of the coast of the unknown continent before it's too late.

Objectives

- Speak to the Misplaced Priory Agent.
- Save the researchers before the island disappears.
-> Clear the room of monsters for the Oblivious Scholar.
-> Reach the Terrified Scholar.
-> Rescue the Curious Scholar.
-> Help the Legend Seeking Scholar.
- Get to the Airship.

Walkthrough[edit]

This fractal takes place in one building, which is ruined. Players will begin in the middle section.

The main thing to watch out for in this fractal is the smoke-like effect which will be creeping into the building slowly. Whilst it will not kill players, it will put a status on them called "Fading". Once this buff gets to 100 stacks, the player will be defeated and returned to the center room. At 50 stacks players will be downed. The status will be wiped whenever a player is defeated, but will persist through being downed.

The only way to remove this buff during play is to use a "Grounding Stone" which some enemies will drop and will be littered around the fractal. This stone will remove some of the party's stacks of Fading in varying amounts (Chips reduce 1 stack, Slivers reduce 5, Chunks 10, Nodes 25 and Crystals 50), but will cause the rate at which Fading is gained slightly. Be careful as well, as during the fractal the remaining rooms will gain small mounts of smoke which will temporarily increase the rate Fading is gained by players standing in them.

Once players talk to the Misplaced Priory Agent, the fractal will begin proper. Note, players will gain stacks of Fading from the time they spawn in.

- Save the researchers before the island dissapears.

Players will be told they will need to save the Priory agents, and each of them are in rooms at the compass points. They are as follows; the Oblivios Scholar is to the north, the Terrified Scholar is to the West, the Curious Scholar is to the South, and the Legend Seeking Scholar is to the East. This walkthough will go through them in this order, but they may be saved in any order.

-> Clear the room of monsters for the Oblivious Scholar.

Upon entering the room, players will notice large numbers of Coatl in the area in between the researcher and players. They will probably also notice the researcher is facing away from the player, and not noticing the danger he's in.

This room is relatively strait forward; players will need to clear all of the Caotl from the room. This is made harder by both the room itself, which is divided into a maze-like structure of invisible walls, but the Coatl themselves. Once players get the Coatl down to 50% health, they'll change their tatics substantially. The two Coatl which have darker colored "wings" will be casters, with one focussing on Point Blank attacks, and the other focussing on ranged. After the change, they will change to cast mainly area of effect spells and conditions respectively. It is advised players take the time to spike down one enemy at a time.

Once players defeat all the enemies, they'll simply need to talk to the Asura, who will notice the bodies and run back to the safety of the center area.

-> Reach the Terrified Scholar.

Upon entering this room, players will notice there is several rows of floors with spaces in between. These spaces are just too large to jump over, but can be vaulted to if players have those skills. Players will need to figure out how to reach the Terrified Scholar, and more importantly, create a pathway back to the door.

This is achieved by knocking down the stone slabs which stand on the edge of each platform. Players will be able to knock both down, but will often find the block simply tumbles into the darkness below. Whenever this occurs, a series of enemies (Spiders, Ghosts or Oozes) will spawn on each platform the players have connected to their path, making later mistakes more punishing then others. The key is to carefully move as a group, so that it minimises the amount of spawns created.

Once the players have reached the Terrified Scholar, he will vault to his feet and run to the door. Players should follow.

-> Rescue the Curious Scholar.

Upon entering the room, players will notice the floor being a grid pattern, with the Sylvari standing trapped on a block near the back of the room. Whilst she will not seem distressed, she wil wander about the block, unable to step off of it.

Once players move in to follow her, walls will shoot up between the cracks in a maze like fashion. These are randomised every time the fractal is generated, and the walls will drop once the last player has moved onto the block. It is important to note that if players step on a stone which would be considered a dead end (only way to go is back the way they came) enemies will spawn on random tiles and move to attack the players. The players simply have to make it across the room through the maze to the trapped Scholar.

Once they have reached the Scholar, the players will all need to interact with the stone switch behind her, which will turn off the maze. The Scholar will run out of the room, players simply have to follow.

-> Help the Legend Seeking Scholar

Upon entering this room, players will notice several slabs of writing scattered around the room, with the Legend Seeking Scholar (a large Norn) wandering between them. Once players approach her, she will cry out in frustration and tell players the legend has been scattered. At this point, the objective marker will change to a meter.

From then on, any block she moves towards will rise up and become an enemy, which act much like the Graven Monoliths of Guild Wars 1. Essentially, they have a skill called Reform, which will allow them to change the class they mimic; whilst they are mimicing a profession, they will have access to one weapon that the profession could use, and the skills related to that weapon. Bear in mind that the Scholar will not stop after examining just one tablet, and players will need to deal with the enemies as quickly as possible so that they don't get overwhelmed.

Once the meter is filled, the Scholar will mutter something about the legend being complete, and will run out of the room. It is up to players if they down the remaning enemies for loot or not, as they will break agro once you leave the room.

- Get to the Airship

Once players complete all four of the sections above, the Priory group will remark that the area seems to be fading away.

Players will then need to complete a short upwards jumping puzzle which will lead them to the deck of an airship. Any players who fall will be spawned on the airship downed. Once all players get to the Airship, the fractal will be stabilised.

Achievement

Solid Self - Finish the fractal without getting 100 stacks of Fading.
