Usage hints for thief's 'stolen' skills[edit]

Scenario[edit]

A thief uses their Steal ability to get some item from an enemy. They now want to figure out what the skill does and how to use it most efficiently.

Problem[edit]

Doing so involves moving the mouse to the skill bar, hovering over the skill and reading its description. This takes a comparatively long time and the Thief will likely experience disadvantages in intense combat situations. Alternatively, they might just use the skill without figuring out what it does, leading to less efficient play.

Suggested Solution[edit]

When using the Steal skill, a hint should automatically appear on screen, giving a short but precise summary of what the obtained skill(s) do. Ideally, this hint would be rather 'flashy', possibly being placed towards the vertical middle of the screen. Obviously it should disappear when the 'stolen' item disappears.

Benefits[edit]

  • Time spent interacting with input devices (mouse) would be reduced.
  • Especially beginners would be more likely to use the Steal ability (correctly).
  • More complex 'stolen' skills could be developed: control, healing etc. instead of damage only.
  • Hints would be unlikely to disturb the player due to only displaying information that they almost definitely want to read. (But an option to turn them off should still be given.)
