I looked around the other threads and didn't see anything on the topic so I apologize if this has been mentioned before. Anyway, I played EvE Online for a while and one of the things I really liked about the game was the fact that in some areas you could go about your business and never have to be worried about another player harassing you, or if you felt so inclined, you could go to other areas and do whatever you wanted more or less consequence free, with the same possibility of that happening to you as well. It brought a sense of excitement that was lacking in the first game.

Here is what I propose: Certain areas designated as PvP areas, in these areas, you can do whatever you want to whoever you want; if you kill them, you lose some sort of reputation status. If the status goes low enough, you can either be attacked in secure areas, or be prevented from going into those areas all together until you build it back up doing certain missions and what not. I suggest these areas be instanced, that way the people with an special aversion to PvP can enjoy those areas in a PvE mode when it prompts upon entering. Obviously

Another thought I had on similar lines involves actual Guild Wars. The PvP system I mentioned above would probably require a three tier system of "secutity", to borrow from EvE terms, in order for this next part to work. I think guilds should be able to declare war and fight one another outside the arena and will be explained in the system below.

Green Zones: Nobody can kill anyone regardless of whether or not they have declared war on each other. Persistent Areas.

Yellow Zones: Yellow Zones are the buffer between Red and Green Zones. Members of waring guilds can openly attack one another but nobody else. Yellow zones could be controllable territory providing certain advantages to those who control it. Events could balance things out if things become too stacked in someone else favor. Persistent Areas.

Red Zones: Red zones have no rules, anything goes. Territory would also most likely be controllable as well. PvE mode for those who don't want to randomly get ganked and perhaps slightly lower stats on loot. Instanced Areas.

Now, obviously this needs some fleshing out but there is the basic concept. Thoughts?
