Here are some additional features I came up with.

Player Status Messages[edit]

  • Do not disturb: changed to "you cannot send or receive messages (activated after 30s of sending no whispers)"
  • Offline: changed to "you cannot send or receive messages (activated after 30s of sending no whispers)"
  • Friends Only: new status - you can only send or receive messages from those in your friends list (activated after 30s of sending no whispers)
  • Friends Only (offline): new status - you can only send or receive messages from those in your friends list, appear offline to everybody else (activated after 30s of sending no whispers)
  • Team Only: new status - you can only send or receive messages from those in your current party (activated after 30s of sending no whispers)

Option[edit]

  • When I whisper somebody in a restricted status, change my status to Online [On/Off]
  • Then change my status back to it's original state automatically after 1 minute of no whispering [On/Off]
  • Alert me whenever I am disconnected from the whisper server [On/Off]

Ignore[edit]

Players on an ignore list functions the same as Offline status. So now a player cannot whisper ignored players.

Why[edit]

I have updated the status messages to accurately reflect their descriptions. People go into Do not disturb or Offline to avoid whispers - but currently this only affects being sent whispers from others, you can still whisper anybody online. By changing Dnd/Offline to also prevent the player from sending messages, it is now accurate. Being "disturbed" means not whispering out, and if you were really offline, then you wouldn't be sending any messages at all.

The 30s activation delay is made for those who like to whisper harass others while in DnD/Offline or while they have them on their ignore list so the victim cannot respond back. The victim could just add them to their ignore list, but that's going too far IMO and the list only supports 10 names as it is. With my changes, anybody who tries to "get away" by changing their status message would have to wait 30s for it to be activated - enough time for the victim to "retaliate". The party who started it cannot respond back or the 30s clock restarts. And because once somebody enters DnD/Offline, they cannot send messages out as well, they MUST be Online when they whisper. Ignore has been updated to reflect the changes to.

I added 3 additional options to help with the changes as well. The first is the option to have your status changed to Online whenever you whisper somebody while in any one of the restricted modes... this will prevent the player from having to change their status message, it will be done for them so they can talk. Otherwise if you attempt to whisper you will get an in chat message saying "You are current in _________ mode, please change to Online or add this person to your friends list and try again". The second option is to revert to whatever you had on originally after 1 minute, so you can continue instigating quick chats or pass messages on, but don't have to keep fiddling with status.

Sometimes you'll get disconnected from the "whisper server" and not know it - this means that you can send messages out, but nobody can respond back. This can be super annoying - the person sending out thinks they are ignored or is wondering what is going on and the receiving end can't tell them that they are offline. This option will bring up the login prompt at the first instance of being disconnected if enabled. Otherwise when somebody is disconnected, they enter "Offline" status, so they cannot send out messages as well.
