Since the GW2 world will be one of persistence, I think it would be wonderful if we would have access to skills (profession-specific, not necessarily general) that would have applications outside of combat. Some examples could be:
- A skill that would reveal bosses on the player's radar and give them a unique color to be made distinct from common enemies.
- A skill that would allow a player to locate treasure (would show the locations on the radar, such as chests, or something similar to the Light of Deldrimor).
- A skill that would allow you to make yourself "friendly" to enemies to avoid entering combat with them.
- A skill to let you breathe underwater (despite their being a consumable for this, an appropriate class may have this ability anyhow).
- A skill to increase the chances of loot being dropped by enemies, or allowing you to steal an item (random) from the enemy while it is still alive.
- This may have more obvious combat uses, but if another player in your instance is being attacked by something it does not want to be fighting and cannot handle, a skill that would allow you to "absorb" the aggro and cause a specific monster, or monsters in the general area to treat you as the priority target (of course this could be used to "steal" the aggro from another player who has already claimed a monster, so maybe there are conditions that must be met before the player can use this ability).
Obviously these are some quick possibilities, but knowing so little about the GW2 world makes it difficult to propose a sufficient list. I think given more information such ideas could be implemented to give players more to do while exploring the persistent areas. These could even be considered ABILITIES rather than SKILLS which may not need to be equipped and are always available (given a recharge of minutes or hours, even if necessary).
