Feedback:User/Raine Valen/Skill Teaching

as an alternative to skill trainers and tomes, would it be possible for players to teach skills to other players? I think that this would be a great way to sink the skill points that people have been accumulating for the past 6 years.

Mechanics[edit]

Mechanically, there are several ways to do this. I think the simplest way would be for a player to craft an item (for which there would be one for every skill) that requires a nominal fee (100g or so) and a certain amount of skill points (5 or so, perhaps, for nonelite skills; elites should be either significantly more costly or impossible to teach); this item would, when used, teach the user a particular skill.

  • If this implementation is used, you can also use it for other functions, like, say, letting normal mode monsters drop these items for skills that they use.

Another interesting possibility is the acquisition of a skill called "Teach" that, when used, teaches nearby allies the next skill that you use (so you could Teach -> Healing Breeze in an explorable area). Alternatively, one could take the opposite approach and implement "Learn", wherein the user acquires the next skill used by a target or in an area.

Benefits[edit]

Implementing such a system gives players another way to interact socially – I can see something like this being very helpful when, say, you have a party member that needs a certain skill that they don't have available on the character that they're playing (e.g. someone's PvE ranger doesn't know "Make Haste!" for rspike).

Also, this gives players a way to expend the hundreds or thousands of skill points that they have no use for.

Drawbacks[edit]

If an item is used, people will complain about storage space. If a skill is used, people will complain about bar space.

Conclusion[edit]
