Current Problem[edit]
Sometimes a team ends up with a player who is not only leeching, but even detrimental to the team's goal.
- A team can gather to complete a mission, quest, dungeon, etc. and often times ends up forming a full or partial "PUG" with players who don't know each other. After investing some time in the quest, they realize that one or more players joined simply to leech off of the rest, and are waiting for a "free" reward, but cannot be punished, because the rest of the group don't want to forfeit the efforts spent so far, so they just end up pulling the leecher along.
- Worst of all, sometimes these leechers from the previous bullet can not only be worthless leechers, but detrimental to the party. They can talk to NPC's when it's not safe to do so and may fail the quest, they can aggro what they shouldn't or constantly run ahead of the group, they can go afk in a safe zone while the rest of the party wipes, but cannot res at a shrine due to the living leech, or they can be just your usual troll who wants to play on people's nerves. This list can go on, and I'm sure we've all been in one of these situations at least once, I know I have.
- Running is not supported by Anet, but is still very much used by players. Often a long difficult run can be sabotaged by a single person who doesn't pay or goes afk.
Solution[edit]
The ability for a party to kick one of their members while not in town. /kick <player name> needs to be input, similar to reporting a player. If at least half of the real players in the party (heroes and henchmen don't count) do this for a single party member, that player will be returned to the last outpost as if he mapped out on his own. In parties with odd number of people, the requirement of "kickers" is rounded down. So, in a 6 people party, 3 kicks will be enough to drop the player. In a 7 people party, 3 is also enough, as it is half of the remaining players excluding the problematic player.
Any heroes belonging to the kicked player remain in the zone as if the player mapped out.
All drops of the kicked player will be removed from the zone and appear in the "Unclaimed Items" window when he is returned to the outpost, just like it happens when a mission ends. This is to prevent drop stealing by abusing this feature.
This command works while dead.
Possible Problem[edit]
This feature could be used to troll and kick a player just before reaching the finish. To reduce the likelihood of this, it may be required for at least 2 people to use the command for it to actually work, so it would not apply to 2-man parties at all, and in a 3-man both of the other players must kick the third.
If this can still be a problem, the minimum requirement of players typing /kick can further increase to 3 for a kick to work. In addition, if necessary, the requirement may be so that all but the player being kicked must input the /kick command, and this works only in parties with 4 or more real players.
PvX[edit]
This is intended for PvE primarily, as most PvP matches are quite short. But I don't see why this can't apply to PvP as well, especially places like FA and JQ, where kicking leechers would remove any advantage to leeching altogether.
