One addition facet that could be added to item spells is the ability to throw them at a single target with a half range. This would create a a more focused effect than actually dropping it in the area. An example, using a GW1 skill would be

Destructive Was Glaive

5 Energy¾ Activation time5 Recharge time Hold Glaive's ashes for up to 30...54...60 seconds. Hold Effect: All your spells have 20% Armor Piercing. Drop effect: All Foes in the area take 10...82...100 damage. Throw effect: Target foe takes 15...43...50 armor ignoring damage and cannot be the target of enchantments for 3...13...15 seconds. If thrown, this spell is disabled for 10 seconds

15 Energy1 Activation time20 Recharge time Hold Kuurong's ashes for up to 15...51...60 seconds. Drop effect: All nearby foes suffer 15...63...75 lightening damage and are knocked down. Throw effect: Target foe is knocked down for 3...5...6 seconds.

It could also be applied to friendly spells

Protective Was Kaolai

10 Energy1 Activation time25 Recharge time Hold Kaolai's ashes for up to 15...51...60 seconds. Hold Effect: Gain 10 armor. Throw Effect: Target ally gains 10...42...50 health and gains 10...34...40 armor for 10 seconds. If thrown, this skill is disabled for 10 seconds.
