I'm excited to see Necromancers retaining their versatile nature, theres just one thing that kinda irks me. In GW minion skills that exploited corpses were always the same. Flesh and bones could be animated from a devourer with an exoskeleton, a Flesh Golem could be animated from a small moa bird. Now I know that mechanics were limited, and there probably wouldnt be any way to implement this in GW, but in GW2 I think its quite possible, if not already implemented. All minions shown so far in gw2 do not need corpses, but what I'm suggested is a rather veratile one that does. Perhaps an elite spell, roughly called Reanimation. It uses the resource life force, and the amount it uses varies on what you're trying to Reanimate. The way it looks depends on what you Reanimated, if you targeted a dead devourer, it would reanimate as something that looks like a dead devourer. And the secondary skill that Reanimate creates would be something that an undead devourer would be capable of doing, perhaps a barrage of poisonous barbs or something.
It would cost very little lifeforce to reanimate a Skritt, but a very substantial amount to reanimate an ogre. This skill would not just exploit a corpse as we know it, but spring a lifeless body back to life, therefore the an enemy NPC could not rez their comrade, because technically he is already rezzed, in the form of a twisted undead minion who you now control. Ofcourse theres limitations to this idea, you can't very well use this on the body of an ally who at some point in the future needs to be alive, because as I have stated you're not just exploiting a corpse, you're embuing lifeforce into a previously lifeless body. Therefore it should be limited to enemy bodies, and the life force it requires should scale with size aswell as overall intelligence of the creature. And also making undead out of fallen undead should not be an option, the reason you can kill a minion of zhaitan is because you've caused so much damage to it's body that it cannot continue to fight you. If there was something salvagable in that body, I'm sure an Elder Dragon would have dibs on it's command.
As far as lore is concerned, characters seem to already posess this ability. Killeen in Ghosts of Ascalon, reanimated the corpses of fallen vanguard. For all I know this skill could already exist in some form or another, I just don't want to see it completely omitted from the game because of limitations. I'm aware it would be rather difficult to have a unique model for every creature that you can animate, but I'm sure there could be a few categories that roughly resemble the look and ability of the creatures. Arthropods retain their exoskeleton, ogres retain their size and strength. Each with a secondary minion skill that roughly resembles what the creature would be able to do, like perhaps an ogre's ability to stomp.
I've been thinking about making this suggestion for some time, just never got around to it. Last night I dreamt that I did it, so I thought I might mosey on over here and type it out, this is indeed my first suggestion. Thanks for reading! --Shadow of Dispair 23:34, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
