I love the demo's and material that is already being shown on the guildwars2 website but something came to my mind. In most MMO"s the textures and quality of the graphics get better and better and especially with GuildWars2.
But what would really would make the characters more realistic is automatic facial expressions. I still see the characters in the demo with fluid body movement and clothing, but their faces stay the same blank expressions (like manequins). (This is not only the case for GW, but sadly for most mmo's i have played/seen).
Perhaps the GuildWars2 team is already working on this, but I really would love to see a wide range of automatically changing facial expressions suiting the situation.
E.g.:
Determinating frowns before commencing attack. Mouth wide open shouting when running into battle. Flinching when getting hit or crying out in pain when taking a lot of dammage. Eye movement and some random facial expressions when just walking or hanging around. No static looks please. NPC's eyeing you suspisiously or winking, flirting, laughing (etc.) Anything that would make the characters look more like real persons than walking dolls. Even PC characters could in a timely fashion blink their eyes, slightly change their mouth etc. to make them less static when you are observing them.
I know most MMO's (including GW) have emote commands. But I think it would really make the game that much more emersive if you really see natural
facial expresions matching the situation and their body composure (both pc and npc's) without the pc's having to type in an emote.
If you think this makes any sense, could you pass this on to the correct persons within the GuildWars2 team for evaluation.
Again I don't know if this (or similar) idea(s) have already passed design and have been scrapped for a good reason, but if this idea is still viable and doable,
I think it would make the world even more realistic.
