I've seen Warhammer Online and what I like about that game is the fact that you can queue up for an instance (e.g. PvP instance) while doing other stuff like solo PvE. If Guild Wars 2 has instances (it'll probably be hard to avoid resorting to instancing for some stuff), I think this would be a good thing. Sure people would grumble about being "whisked" away at the wrong moment, but there various workarounds e.g. give people 10-30 secs to either finish their stuff or give up their queue position, and even GW1 nowadays keeps drops around in a special panel.
