Feedback:User/Teisei/Symbol of Wrath

I think Symbol of Wrath (as well as its clone, Kirin's Wrath) should be improved. As it stands, 5 Energy2 Activation time30 Recharge time Symbol of Wrath isn't an effective spell. It has very low energy cost of 5, but has cast time of 2 seconds, and recharge time of 30 seconds. Smiting Monks have plenty of energy to spare, but they only have low energy, high recharge spells so they can't make use of it all ... or at least they have to pick their bar full of offensive spells in order to be able to do decent DPS.

What I suggest is something like this:

Symbol of Wrath;

10 Energy2 Activation time20 Recharge time

"Spell. Foes adjacent to the location in which the spell was cast are knocked down and take 8...27...32 holy damage each second for 5 seconds."

These changes would make the spell a bit more useful. It has lower recharge, double the previous energy cost, and does initial area-of-effect knockdown.

Along these changes, the spell would become more like what is visually described in the skill icon, where people are being blown away by Symbol of Wrath's area-of-effect.

Alternate, more radical changes[edit]

This is the alternative to the previous suggestion. The purpose of this is to make Symbol of Wrath something like a non-Elite version of Ray of Judgment.

Symbol of Wrath;

5 Energy2 Activation time30 Recharge time

Half Range Spell. Invoke a Symbol of Wrath at target foe's location. For 5 seconds, target foe and all foes adjacent to this location take 8...27...32 holy damage each second.

Standing in the middle of a ball of monsters has never been something that a Monk would do voluntarily (except with the infamous 55hp and 600hp builds). Making Symbol of Wrath a Half Range, targeted spell, with current skill data, would make it a more viable option for Smiting Monks.

In a way, Symbol of Wrath would be like a weaker version of it's big brother, Ray of Judgment. RoJ's advantages over Symbol of Wrath would be full spell range, applied burning and faster recharge time. The only downside of RoJ compared to Symbol of Wrath would be the energy cost of 10, that still is very reasonable.

EDIT to both parts:

The AOE damage could be significantly lower (like -25-30%) than I mentioned. So the maximum damage (at level 15 in Smiting Prayers somewhere between 20 and 30 per tick).

Also the energy cost in these both suggestions could be 15 to make it fair.
