I wasn't sure where to place this suggestion but I feel like I needed to at least bring it out into the open.
There have been a lot of cases--especially within the last year or so--of skills in Guild Wars going directly from "in use" to "completely dead" and vice versa. This seriously needs to stop either now or hopefully in Guild Wars 2.
Proposal
- Before a skill update is actually implemented, Guild Wars/Arena Net staff should make a page about their proposed changes to the skills in the game and then make that page available to comment and scrutiny by the Guild Wars players.
- Create side-pages off of the main page where players could leave their own suggestions for ONLY the skills that might be changed. No other suggestions can be made there simply to prevent people piling up suggestions akin to, "Nice idea with Skill X, bro, but you know what would be awesome? If you changed Skill Y instead."
Pros
- Look at the variety of interesting and fresh skill change ideas throughout this section of the Suggestion Portal. Sure there are our great share of players suggesting wildly unnecessary buffs and nerfs, but the truth is that many Guild Wars players actually know what they're talking about and know how to fix some of these skill-based problems.
- Through discussion with in-game players, ANet staff might have a better idea of what the impact of their possible skill changes would have on the game before the implementation actually happens. This could save a lot of grief for the player community.
- Players could instantly respond to possible changes with suggestions of their own. This could hopefully reduce the lag time between skill change implementation and subsequent balancing stages (i.e. Way of the Assassin or Seeping Wound which both had to be re-balanced either immediately after skill change implementation or at least later on down the road).
Cons
- There will probably be A LOT of people in the comment section of said pages saying, "OMG WHY WOULD YOU NERF/BUFF THAT LIKE THAT? ANET DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING! I HATE THIS GAME!" However, if reviewers of those pages could do their best to overlook such banter, I'm sure they could find some very meaningful input.
