Fort Aspenwood, Jade Quarry both have the same Leecher/Leaver problem.

If you are familiar with the game mechanics please skip this section. The game works as follows in terms of Rewards: For each kill, you receive 10 Balthazar Faction and 5-10 Kurzick/Luxon(K/L) Faction. Once the winning team is decided, they receive the BIG reward of (usually) 2500-3500 K/L Factions and a stipend for the losing team. The game works as follows in terms of Punishment: Each time you are reported as Leecher, you receive 2 Dishonor Points. Each time you report someone as Leecher, you receive 2 Dishonor Points unless 3+ players have reported that same person. Each time you Leave a game before a winner is declared, you receive 5 Dishonor Points. If you are Inactive for a long amount of time during a match, you automatically receive Dishonorable Status.


The Reason Behind Leeching

The reason why people Leech, is because although they are temporarily suspended(Dishonorable) from entering PvP, they still receive rewards for doing so. Anybody can understand that, if a behaviour(even bad behaviour) is rewarded, people repeat the process for more. If (Currently) I enter a match and Leech it, I will still receive Balthazar and K/L Factions for doing it, and the BIG K/L Factions at the end of the game.


NEW System

The game now counts ALL the Faction gained during the match but does NOT give it to players yet. Once a winner is decided, the game checks each player for Dishonorable. If a player receives the Dishonorable status(by being Reported or by being Inactive), the reward is forfeit for that player. Everyone else receives their rewards, which should be exactly equal to the amount they are currently receiving(with the current system), from kills and winning/losing. The game counts how many Resigns were requested by a team and a match ends automatically if any 5 players from a team resign, and this team is declared the losing team. Let's compare the New System with other game mechanics in GW.

Comparison#1: Quests

Example: Finding the Bloodstone Objectives

a. Invoke the Inscription Stone in Sparkfly Swamp to unlock the path to the Bloodstone.

b. Help Gadd and Livia reach the Bloodstone in the depths below.

c. Defeat Inscribed Sentries and decipher their inscriptions to open passageways.

d. Destroy the Inscribed Guardian protecting the Bloodstone.

I did part a, b, c, but not d. Having done 3 parts, I did 75% of that quest. I leave before d. Can i claim any sort of rewards from that Quest? No

I played 75% of a JQ match, but did not finish it. Should I be able to claim any sort of rewards from JQ? No (but currently Yes, you claim kill rewards)


Comparison#2: Heroes Ascent

When do I receive rewards(Fame) for winning? At the end of the battle

If I Leave an HA match before it is over, do I still get Fame and the Hall of Heroes Chest? No

If I Leave a JQ match before it is over, should I still get Kurzick/Luxon Factions? No(but currently you get kill points)

I am aware that you do receive Balthazar Factions per unique kill in the middle of an HA match. The difference? You can Leech JQ, you probably cant Leech HA as easily(you will get kicked out of team. Period)


1. How does this fix Leeching?

If we eliminate the source of rewarding Leeching(also known as match manipulation), there will be no more reason to do so. Players must be EARN their rewards by participating in the game. If you do not participate, you get 0 rewards. Currently, FA and JQ are infested with Leechers, because it is an EASY WAY(just click enter battle then go afk, wait for 30 mins for match and Dishonorable to have ended, repeat) to obtain Ally of the Kurzicks/Luxons to put a additional statue in their Hall of Monuments, or obtain Amber/Jade so that they can craft the Elite Kurzick/Luxon Armor and put a statue of this in their Hall of Monuments, or simply obtaining Balthazar Faction worth of 200 Zkeys and obtain the PvP statue, or to simply obtain "free and infinite" money(5000 Balth = 1 Zkey = 5k, 5000 K/L = 1 Amber/Jade = 1k), or all of the above. 2. How does this fix Leaving?

Simple. Since the rewards are given at the end of the game, if you Leave the game beforehand, you do not get the rewards at all. I will quote what 2 players have said during "losing" battles.

PlayerA: I got my Zkey, so I'm out.

PlayerA is clearly referring to the fact that he gets 10 Balthazar Faction per kill, and thus, because his Balthazar Faction has reached 5000, he believes that he can selfishly Leave the team, which now has to play without him. This is match manipulation at its worst. PlayerA entered the battle solely for the purpose of completing his Zkey, with no intention of staying to PvP and thus disadvantages the team he joined. With the New System, PlayerA must stay, or will not get his Zkey.

PlayerB: I just don't wanna play with these Newbs.

PlayerB is the typical arrogant player who thinks other players are just not as good as he is(unfortunately, this might be true). But PlayerB will not even try to do his best and obtain the maximum out of a losing match(Match#1). He will simply Rage Quit(Leave Match#1) and enter Match#2 just BECAUSE those 'Newbs' are currently inside Match#1 and so wont be in Match#2(unless they Leave Match#1 too, and re-enter). With the New System, the policy for PvP should be: IF YOU ENTER BATTLE YOU AGREE TO STAY UNTIL THE BATTLE IS OVER OR YOU FORFEIT ALL REWARDS FOR THAT BATTLE. Again with the New System, if 5 players on a team agree that they DO NOT WISH TO PROLONG THE BATTLE FURTHER, THEY MAY RESIGN AND CUT THEIR LOSSES, OBTAINING WHAT THEY EARNED TO THAT POINT.

If one player leaves, it is an annoyance to the team. If one player refuses to resign(or is Leeching), it is also an annoyance for the whole team that just wants to give up. The team's Decision, by a majority of 5 out of 8 players will be to keep FIGHTING, or to RESIGN. BY ENTERING BATTLE YOU AGREE TO COMPLY TO THE TEAM-MAJORITY'S DECISION(fight or resign) OR FORFEIT ALL REWARDS FOR THAT MATCH(Leaving). If you are not a team-player and refuse to comply to your team's decision, why on earth are you entering JQ which is a team-battle?


3. How about disconnections?

On Average a player disconnects 1-3 times per day(Average meaning some players never disconnect at all while others can get disconnected 5+ times per day). The game cannot detect the difference betweeen a player that leaves willingly or disconnects involuntarily. What are the chances of you disconnecting during the JQ match compared to outside? About 1-2 times per day. With the New System, should you disconnect(and thus Leave the Match), you also forfeit ALL the rewards for that match. Reason? You did not participate in that match, you did not earn the rewards. If we take the average in consideration, one disconnection per day during a JQ match makes you 'not get' approximately 500 Balthazar Faction and provided that you left your team and it is disadvantaged and they have a higher chance lose, around 2000 K/L Faction. If you play a lot of JQ, you will know that is amount of almost negligible. If you do not play a lot of JQ, then chances are lower that you actually disconnect during a JQ match. If you are disconnecting 10+ times per day, then you should really consider whether you should be playing JQ, because you are ruining the enjoyment of all the teammates that joined the matches with you. You disconnect 10 times during JQ matches? That makes 7 unhappy players per match, you ruined the nice time of 70 other players. Some players may be repeated in the above calculation, but know this: Ruining the nice time of somebody once is not the same as ruining their nice time twice. It should count twice(hence 70 is the right number).
