I don't think it should be used in places like FoW, UW, etc. and that there should be an acceptance to these 'gifts' / consumables to not be allowed usage in those areas, enabling others still the ability to use them when needed. ♥ Ariyen ♀ 11:06, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm on the fence about disallowing consumables in elite areas; on the one hand I can see the benefits of such an action, it would definately impact speed clears. Yet, I can also see the downside of such an action as well. Somehow I don't see Arenanet removing the option of using consumables like the Essence in places such as FoW. Having the option of accepting the 'gift' or not is another difficult thing: easy to say, harder to program. That, I think, comes down to partying with people who want to use them, or don't want to use them. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 11:27, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, isn't FoW and UW suppose to be like for those who are 'skilled' with their builds, etc.? Who can do the places without the need of things like consumables, candy, etc.? ♥ Ariyen ♀ 18:59, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
"Well, isn't FoW and UW suppose to be like for those who are 'skilled' with their builds, etc.?"
LOL, hell no, it's hard to say you're 'skilled' in an environment that is, by design, put there for you to beat. Not just one way but multiple ways. Skill is a wildly debatable topic when talking about PvE, a lot of people still miss the fact that be design it's made beatable in a variety of different ways.
I've suggested in the past that consumables like the Essence be removed from High-end content when I myself was in a "isn't these areas supposed to be about skill" stance, yet I can't deny the fact that Arenanet is using such tools as a game lengthening device. It is getting more people involved in the more challenging content, which wouldn't be so much of a bad thing if it wasn't reinforcing 'gimmick, you have to play it this way' style gameplay (ie Speed clears). In there current context consumables are too great of an overpowered, overriding influence that needs to be 'balanced' as it were. I know guildies and alliance members we've started off with using consumables in these areas, gained experience (because so called skilled players didn't want 'noobs' partying with them) and then went on to complete the areas multiple times without consumables. That is not a bad thing, it helps people get experience, skill as some people put it when many others don't want to give inexperienced people the chance to grow.
Skill, pfft. Personally, I can do several of these areas in multiple ways, with mutiple setups and speeds, yet don't consider myself a 'skilled player', to do so forces me into a position where I become comparable to other people and in that position 'skill' or 'skilled' becomes clouded. Skill is in the mind of the individual. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 22:21, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
