Feedback talk:User/Alcazzar/Difficult but interesting final boss result idea
Ah, sorry but several problems there - 1. A final boss is pretty much the main antagonist of the game, people join up and make characters thinking "hey wow, when i'm high enough level i get to go up against that guy". If that boss could only be killed once then stayed dead PERMANENTLY, that would mean that new players that join after it died could never really play the game to it's full potential. They'd never go up against this boss and would be forever missing a link in their storyline. Final bosses are final bosses for a reason, and killing off the boss would demolish the need for any quests leading up to said boss fight (gratz you've just killed off a LOT of gameplay content). Not to mention what about trailers or promotions for the game? "Hey come fight Zhaitan - oh wait, sorry he karked it four weeks ago." People must remember that even if theres a boss that is apparently impossible to beat, players will beat it; simple as that. With GW2's combat system you could just have 500 people or more team up and take it down, so this "final boss" would in no way be final, Anet would have to put in a replacement to actually keep up content; who the hell would want to play an mmo with no end boss? I wouldn't. But replacements would doubtless be killed off too and this would lead to a chaotic player base with no one knowing what boss is what.
2. Loot and fame - sorry but its pretty clear that your idea is pretty much one of the most common player fantasies: player kills end boss = player get op item and rank etc. = player pwn all and become supreme ruler... kinda a killjoy if one group of players got the boss then had all the advantage over other players. Cause I mean, afterall it's the final boss; it would have to give pretty good loot. But if it died off afterwards there would be a small group of players with awesome items left to roam free in a larger player base (This is why developers only make average - low range or novelty items limited edition, to make sure the player base still stays equal). Almost all game developers try to achieve a balance with their games, an experience that's good and fair for EVERYONE; not just a few players. And who knows if these players could be trusted with their fame, what if it turns out that these players are really abusive or just run around the game-world bragging of their achievements? The fact is minorities in the player community can't be trusted with this much power or fame.
It is a players dream, but its never, ever; going to happen.
