I totally agree with this. At least you could prioritise matching groups with similar ranks so that they are more likely to get matched up with each other even if it doesn't happen all the time. Another option would be to give players a bonus point of fame or two if they are of low rank and beat a team with a much higher average rank. This would mean that even when low-ranked players get matched up with higher ranked ones, they do at least gain fame faster on those occasions that they do win. As a R2 player, it can be very frustrating to find a group since so few people will let you in. I understand they don't want bad players (it's very frustrating trying to educate new or just plain stupid people when running a group too) but I've played with some very bad people of higher rank than me before, so there's not always a straight correlation. I disagree...[edit]

For a couple of small reasons and one big one. The big one is that it would make halls pretty much a joke, since you'd get lots of unranked teams in, since they wouldn't have to be decent to make it there. So what I suggest is...

  • Players skip maps based on <their average rank minus two>. Unranked teams up to r2 teams would start on Zaishen. r3, UW. r4, Fetid. Etc.

This means that:

  • Matches would get progressively harder toward Halls.
  • Higher-ranked teams wouldn't have to farm randomways to get to competitive maps; that's not fun for anyone.
  • Newer players could play against other new players; there'd be no huge starting bump to overcome.
  • People with a real amount of fame could skip the goddamned Zaishen.

And, accordingly, a change to the fame system:

  • Fame is gained based on the number of consecutive wins. Additional fame is gained based on the rank of the opposing team.
    • In GvG, you gain more for beating better players; why not HA?

Finally (obviously), some map changes would have to take place. The old maps could be reimplemented in a different fashion, like Burial Mounds was.
