Perhaps participation fee?[edit]

Americans seem to have a strong dislike for anything called a tax (no matter how sensible it might be), so perhaps it might be better just to refer to this as a automatic deduction of cash earned during a guild-sponsored event.

The thing is: the Influence system already takes care of 99% of event needs and that form of currency is generated by group activities. You can already use influence to purchase buffs for PvE and WvW. What else would the guild leaders spend guild coin on?

Also, I wouldn't like to be part of a guild that charged for my participation (even if the money was to be spent on guild activities later on). Still, having this feature in the game shouldn't affect me at all, so I don't have any objection (except, of course, that ANet wouldn't have time to add some other features that I might like better). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:16, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Oh ok, i wasnt aware of the tax problem in america, it was just a word for me, i like the way you call it "deduction of cash". The thing is, guild leaders can purchase "Banquets" these are more or less expensive 1-100 gold Coins, were your guild gets in exchange influence and maybe buffs the member, i dont know about the buffs so far cos havent tested it yet! My idea was just that guilds can collect automatically a really small amount so they can do maybe once a week a banquet, where all members can come togehter? cos 1-2% from events are only 1 copper coin each event, which you wont miss? It should be just an option for guild leaders, maybe they got joyful money donator for the guild, or maybe not? :) – Donald Duck 18:09, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
The banquet can be bought with influence, which is earned by guild participation (the more guildies who join together, the faster it builds). So, guilds already earn per event...without any need to charge them for participation. Why risk discouraging attendance by charging anything? In fact, I would argue that guilds would benefit more by rewarding members for joining events than the other way around. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:55, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Where have you seen that the Banquets where purchased by influence? I have seen NPCs in the beta where you can by the banquets by gold coins from them? – Donald Duck 16:33, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
I hope that helps illustrate what I meant. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:16, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes this helps! And the whole thing is about the guild promoter...you can buy it for money...so i hope there will be some function for the leader. Because the money for the weekly banquet isnt 10 gold coins, its actually 100 gold coins, so alot to donate free...well i hope the promoter will be used more with a small function, like i discribed. – Donald Duck 23:46, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) The simplest solution may be to permit players to choose whether or not to donate coins towards the guild stash with each event they complete while representing the guild rather than putting this option in the hands of the guild leader. By giving the players control over how and where to spend their money, it's more likely they will be willing to make donations.

The controls/interface for accomplishing this would probably be nearly identical to what you have in mind for the guild leader. Only now, it's the players who move a slider to set the amount of coin to automatically donate after completing an event rather than the guild leader. This option preserves players' freedom of choice as compared to restricting it if it were in the hands of the guild leader. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 23:05, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

GW3P raises an interesting idea. I confess I still see influence as being plentiful enough that GW2 players won't have to tithe some of their earnings to their guilds (as they do in other games). However, like nearly any game mechanic, I'm willing to reserve further judgment until the game is out and we can see the effects of the current setup. It's possible that small guilds will need a way to generate influence quickly in a way that large guilds do not...and Herr Duck's or GW3P's idea might be a quick way for such guilds to generate the necessary cash reserves. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:58, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
