Feedback talk:User/Frostty1/Bank, depositing/withdrawing coin

Yes, please[edit]

  1. Agree: default should be zero and should be auto-selected when you click in the field.
  2. Agree: tab/shift-tab work in forms everywhere (spreadsheets and beyond); why not in games, too.
  3. Agree: GW1 allows withdraw/deposit all. Why doesn't GW2?

And, as long as we're at it, I'd like to see:

  • +/- increment/decrement the current field. (And perhaps shift+ or shift- might increment by 10 units.)
  • Escape should either cancel the form entirely or reset the previous number.
  • There should be an option to type an amount in bronze (that would then convert to the equivalent in gold/silver, e.g. typing 100 would be the same as 1 silver).

I'm not sure why this happens, but a lot of new games seem to reinvent this interface, even though (as you said in suggestion) that there are plenty of games that already do this well. There are some things that don't need to be original or new to different games.

Thanks for posting the idea. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:14, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

+1. Support. Everything TEF said. There's nothing gained in forcing players to make multiple mouse clicks and key presses in mundane dialog boxes and UI controls when more efficient methods exist. Every dialog should have at least three methods for controlling/changing the fields within it:
  1. Mouse click a field and then enter data.
  2. Mouse click an icon that enters/changes data (e.g. +/- increment/decrement icons, scroll bars, scroll wheels, etc.)
  3. Tab/Shift+Tab, Alt/Ctrl/Shift(one of the preceding)+alphabetic character shortcut key, and/or arrow keys for navigation between fields and use +/- keys to increment/decrement values.
Also, every field which takes numerical input should always have buttons and/or keyboard shortcuts for "Add All", "Take All", "Sell All", etc. as well as "Remove All", "Reset", "Set to zero", etc. A quick example where this is not implemented in GW1 is when using faction to purchase Z-keys from Tolkano. Each key costs 5,000 Balthazar Faction. I have 15,000 B-faction and want to trade it for 3 Z-keys. Instead of having an option to "Take All" B-faction at once to get my 3 Z-keys, I have to trade 5,000 B-faction for 1 Z-key three separate times.
What exactly is the point of that? How is that supporting the philosophy of "fun" that ArenaNet recently touted on their blog? I hope there's a QA team for GW2 who's task is to go through every dialog where numerical input can be entered and/or changed by the player and ensure we don't wind up with another situation like the one I just described come launch. The guiding principles should be:
  1. How can we design this dialog or UI control to get players in and out of it as fast as possible so they can return to playing the game?
  2. While at the same time designing enough safe guards to prevent a player from accidentally selling off their entire inventory by mistake, for example? Guild Wars 3 perhaps 23:07, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Was this really missing from GW2? I noticed, but didn't bother posting because I thought I probably just missed it (Unpublished #1). Definitely +1 Adhyron 17:50, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
