I don't think, it is such a great idea. There is a difference between promoting awareness and supporting it directly with money. Promoting is a good thing, but most people will prefer to send their money directly instead over a game, especially, if not 100% are used for helping by Anet.
Cancer, especially Breastcancer, is something, that can happen to anyone and has far better chances to be cured, if realized early. Cause this Circumstances, it is a great thing to promote the awareness of cancer, but supporting it directly would be on the one side not such a big deal (many players will not buy it, if they have not a personally interest in the item, but money helps in any way), on the other side, there are many other things, that cant happen to anyone/happens rarly under extreme special ciecumstances, so promotion has not really a use for it, but it needs support in the same way like cancer.
I do like the idea of promoting different things ingame sometimes and Anet could link then to sides, where you can support with money, but i dislike the idea of supporting with money directly ingame. For example if breastcancer is promoted (one week each year), they sell a item ingame (not for gems) to promote awareness and link to a trustworthy cancer Foundation on twitter, facebook, the official wikis, their forums... --Naruuu 10:03, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

-100[edit]

I fully disagree, only because I know who Rick Simpson [1] and Stanislaw Burzynski [2] are. --Skekzyz 05:45, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Also search: Hoxsey --Skekzyz 06:32, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Watch both of those links and do the search, then you can get back to me on how that "cure for cancer" is working out in this system. --Skekzyz 07:45, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Partake and Donate during 'PinkDay in LA'[edit]

Hello Ghaste,

While I somewhat agree with your suggestion, there is no real need for Anet to give you the option to buy something in through the ingame shop so they can donate it to some charity. First of all, these charities always take donations, so you can wire money to them at any time you feel obliged to do so...

BUT, there is more, for several years now a part of the community has organized PinkDay in LA, a specific player driven INGAME event, on 'pink ribbon day' or w/e the day is called in english speaking nations. During this day players can win all sorts of prices, donated by the community, both ingame for just participating as well as by a donation raffle (aka. you donate more than X, you get to pick a number for the raffle, and you have a chance to win). The launch of GW2 has changed nothing about our intentions for the future (i say 'our', as i help out with donating and hosting this event), actually in about a month time this event will likely be held in BOTH GW1 & GW2. Seeing this event lasts for nearly 32hours (including pre & post parties) there is nothing preventing you from partaking in the event and donating to the Canadian Cancer Society.

You can find more on this event, on this here wiki-page: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Pink_Day_in_LA

ps. You be well off to be adviced that Rosa Salvitas was introduced by Anet to support both the awareness cause, as well as this event, which by my knowledge has been held every year since the launch of GW1 (it may not have been the 1st year, but from there onwards for sure).
