Feedback talk:User/Laric McLeod/Character Flight
They have stated this won't happen in GW2. I think Aion has that area covered. I don't think it would fit into the 'lore' of GW too much personally.
"Controls
The control & movement system is going to be significantly changed. In particular, mouse movement in the form "click to move" will be removed from the game; however, target locking will still function. Guild Wars 2 will be a true 3D environment which will allow characters to jump over obstacles as well as swim and dive underwater. Flight will not be a featured character capability in Guild Wars 2. Furthermore, the new animation coding will allow separate tracks for upper and lower body components, in effect allowing players to activate more skills while running or jumping, for smoother combat immersion. - That's no reason to not ask for it, or let them know that we want it. It can always be added to the game. I've made this point elsewhere, but I'll summarize again. What's the point in upgrading the interface/graphics/movement if you're not going to make it mean something? --Laric McLeod 18:37, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- Except as far as I know humans, Asuran, Charr, Norn and Sylvari do NOT have wings. If there are mounts, flying transport maybe. That seems quite reasonable. Hell if you look at all fantasy in most book, magic rarely invokes the power to fly. or it is hugely costy to do so. So it is just not realistic, hugely overpowered, and it makes the game feel incredibly stupid (imo of course). Why not add bombing airplanes, ninjas , invisibility, phasing through walls, summoning dragons and weapons 15 times your body size as well.. because that's incredibly cool :P -.- (Frizz 17:17, 17 May 2010 (UTC))
- There are ways to fly that do not involve wings, and there are NPC races in the game now that have wings that don't fly (they conveniently hover at melee height). I'm not concerned with fantasy from other settings either, or what's "realistic" as you say, I'm focusing on GW where my Elementalist hovers off the ground (now) while he casts spells, I would like some more height for a prolonged duration. As for your other suggestions, right now in the game we already have bombing (catapults), ninjas (assassins, mo zing mask), I'd like to see invisibility and phasing as an assassin stance/enchantment, we can already summon dragons (celestial at that), and oversized weapons aren't incredibly cool. --Laric McLeod 09:46, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Asura Gates will take this function[edit]
Unlike WoW, where you have to fly around the world using the Air Riders full of immersion, in GW2, we will just jump from zone to zone, with use of Asura Gates. They work similar to the Air Riders in WoW, accept for the fact that it will be instant jump, rather then true travel in the persistent world.--Knighthonor 11:53, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not talking about using Flight for map travel, I love instant map travel. I just want an Elementalist Air Enchantment that allows me to "fly" about thirty feet off the ground to avoid melee attacks. When it ends (on it's own) I float back to the ground, if it ends prematurely I fall, take damage, get knocked down, crippled, and dazed. The "flight" aspect is just a visual application of the third axis of movement, it's a natural evolution really, and would provide less benefit then Shadow Form does now. --Laric McLeod 09:46, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
