- I agree. Cartographer in GW1 was terrible. Exploring the world is a lot of fun but map scraping for the decimal points of a percent was not. What about a kind of 'reveal' method where it appears cloudy on your map but once you have explored 60% of an area the entire cloud becomes revealed? Different parts of a map could be given their own 'tag' for revealing. For example, Sunqua Vale could reveal all of the caverns to the right of Minister Cho's Estate once you explore 60% of the cave, instead of having to scrape the walls of the entire cavern. At the same time, while large areas will be revealed easily once entering them, things like the Nagas at the waterfall near Tsumei Village will need you to explore around the bridge to trigger the map reveal for that small part of the map, similar to your idea.
- While I agree that wall scraping sucked, I still like that it credits you for exploring the entire map instead of just landmarks. Torma 09:01, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

I liked the scraping from GW1 (except maybe for the last 1%, which isn't that much XD)... Cantha was annoying because of the Competitive Missions you had to explore, though -___-" Anyway, I find your idea really interesting, bringing lore and cartography together is a very attractive concept !! 195.132.193.222 12:01, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
i think this is a good idea, a player for example could reach the top of anvil rock and maybe some words appear like 'from here you plot nearby locations on you map' or something i dunno. i think its stupid that you can see a place and it doesnt appear on the map
- Any new discussion?--Malchior Devenholm 06:20, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
I dunno....I kind of love the Cartography aspect of GW1. In fact, I was utterly THRILLED when I realized that there was an achievement/title to reward those players (like me) who feel the need to obsessively explore every cranny of the world. That said, I do understand that everyone (myself included) finds it annoying to have to re-scrape areas for the last few tenths of a percent of any given map. I wouldn't mind a GW2 revamp of Cartographer along the lines described, but I would still want to make sure that this would not be a title for the faint of heart, and should adequately reward the dedicated completionists. So I would think there would need to be a LOT of those little "landmarks" like you described to make the earning of the title worthy of the task, if that makes sense? Just my two cents. ;) --216.176.94.186 21:36, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- Response to poster above- I believe that would be the idea. The world will always have nooks and crannies to explore that are off the beaten path. My idea just makes it where you have to find the hidden area, not find the hidden area and then proceed to run along every single wall to uncover a piece of fog. And yes, there would be multiple landmarks to offer different quest varieties and flesh out the lore on multiple races (both playable and non-playable) --Malchior Devenholm 18:12, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
This has been mentioned before, but there should be a vanquisher style "blessing" that shows what % of an area you have uncovered. Gold would be enough 100%/enough for title, platinum color if TRULY 100% (since you can get the legendary title while having some still missing). Previously Unsigned 05:25, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
