Excellent suggestion, well thought out, and well formatted. I would add one more piece to it. You wrote:

As not to disturb the feel of the game with technical details, the review should probably stay optional via a button or a setting.

I would add a third option that strikes a balance between full-on or full-off for this feature. This intermediary setting would not pop-up an alert in the UI when logging on after a long abscence. Instead, any time you equip a skill that has received an update from the last time you used it (including skills currently equipped on your character), it will become highlighted and either (a) automatically pop-up an alert for just that skill alone that lists out the changes since the update or (b) will only pop-up the alert if the skill is manually activated.

To avoid having these pop-ups break immersion while adventuring, the pop-ups (and perhaps the highlighting, as well) would only happen when in a town or otherwise safe haven (whatever form that takes in GW2). Then you don't have to worry about the pop-up interrupting your gaming experience in the middle of a fight, for example. Then the player is free to review the changes to their skills at their leisure. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 07:09, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your interest and input. You make a good point indeed. The pop-up should be a great option for players who want to stay up to date at a glance, and a convenient in-game method for staying informed about updates on a "daily basis". It is also an elegant solution to narrow down the update information to each player's actually used skills. Technically seen it would probably require tracking of "skill last used" per player, which could be implemented as client-side variables in the local game data. In any case I surely like the idea of a pop-up per skill. - NagaBishii 11:10, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
