I agree as well to a certain point. I wouldn't mind removing elite skills from high level PvP simply because I don't want to see a match opening up with 8 invulnerable Elementalist Tornadoes flying into another team. It just seems like if an entire team synced their elites they would have a decent chance of rolling another team. A possible counter would be if another team used their elites in response but that just means that everyone now has 9 skills for 12 minutes until everyone tries another elite bum rush again. Obviously, players in high PvP will probably be a little smarter than this but the fact remains that the current functional style of most elite skills in GW2 doesn't fit the flow of what we've come to know as Guild Wars PvP. I understand that this new game is taking bold new strides in new directions but I'm not sure this is a desirable one.
However, at the same time I don't really want to lose elites in PvP simply because a lot of them add such crazy and interesting new dynamics to the battlefield. I suppose I'd be open to simply dropping them for another utility slot but that just seems like it'd leave me with a bad taste in my mouth when I know that cooler skills exist that could be in that 10th box. It's either that or reworking elites into PvP versions--a more reactionary and probably less than desirable alternative but it's the only one that I've seen work decently so far in situations like this in respect to Guild Wars skill balance tactics. Agreed. I'm not really sure what anet's thinking. But they may have an angle with this that they haven't shown, who knows. I can see perhaps elites being the skills that cause a party to fall back... except many of said elites include speedbuffs like RaO, allowing them to just run the other team over. Optionally, perhaps elites can only be activated on a character by performing some action in pvp. E.g., the creators were debating whether potions would be scattered along the battlefield, perhaps elites could be activated in a similar way, only be much rarer so most players never use their elite. I'm fine with Elite Skills in PvP. They are situational, and only a 1-shot deal, not spammable. It isn't like one side has them and the other doesn't. At what point is the damage of an ability "low" enough that is it allowed in PvP? What number is then "too high" that it makes you want it banned? If you look at it like that, you are arguing that a certain point of damage (or usefulness) shouldn't be allowed, even when on a very long cooldown. Once elites are gone, the next lowest skill would be the most noticed, and therefor on the chopping block. Balance is always an issue of perception. And balance doesn't require absolute removal. Plus, it just doesn't fit with why the professions suddenly can't use all their abilities. Other games may do that as a cheap fix to solve a balance problem, but it doesn't mean that should be the status quo. Wazwolf 01:11, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
