Zoins[edit]
could add them in exchange for Zoins maybe. --Dinsy 12:20, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for commenting. I thought about zoins... and decided that they don't offer the same comparable effort filtering that visiting the consumable crafters does. You can trade in zoins at L1 (by acquiring them with another toon). I suppose it would be possible to add other requirements, but the zoin NPCs have a really simple interface that seems worth protecting, whereas the EotN consumable crafters already sell stuff that requires skill points, cash, mats, and a minimum rank. So, zoins sounds nice, but no zoins ends up being simpler and more in keeping with the spirit of learning skills tied to a particular group. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 13:08, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Bad idea[edit]
Of course people whoo dont got PvE skills are bad because you are pretty bad if you got sub-optimal skills. And you're even worse if you can't beat a few EotN quests in Normal Mode. So yeah there's a reason PUGs consider people without PvE skills noobs; because they are.--83.82.62.210 11:26, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- This won't change anything at all for new players (they still have to go through the quests). It doesn't make it easier for veterans; you still have to accumulate the equivalent experience. All this concept does is add flexibility; the tomes are expensive enough that some players might still choose to repeat the quests. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 12:13, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Good Idea[edit]
I like the idea and it does seem to me to be well thought out. I also very much agree with the statement that some crafting materials are underused! I would hope that along with learning the skill with the tome that the skill would also be matched with the highest level of that skill on your account (if Pain Inverter on one toon was level 10 Asuran then when I use the tome and learn Pain Inverter on another toon then it would also be level 10 Asuran). I don't feel that I should have to repeat grind more than once per account. I feel most accomplishments should be account wide. Cinnamongod 17:39, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your feedback. Personally, I think it's appropriate that pve skills are tied to character-specific titles; it would also be too easy to use these tomes if you were already rank 10 before a new character even got to eotn. The idea is to assume that ANet wants these overpowered skills to remain in the game, but offer an alternative to repeating the storyline. If eotn ranks become account wide, I'd like to see the skills changed so that the scale with something else (e.g. Technobabble is a sort of mesmer skill, so maybe it should scale with Domination). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:55, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- I would use this get certain skills where completing associated quest may be undesirable (aka Air of Superiority). --Falconeye 05:31, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah. Or, for those who hate Polymock, the Summoning skills. Some of the skills requiring going through a sequence of quests, so mebbe there should be two sets of tomes: minor pre-req tomes and major. Or maybe you have to obtain the skills in a set order. Thanks for your feedback, Falconeye. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:55, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
