This was the original image used to mean "any profession" or "no profession". The template {{x}} has been used to mean both any profession and no profession. There's a new icon for any profession, that's the grey dot you are talking about. Someone altered {{x}} to use the grey dot, but this was reverted since some articles use {{x}} to mean "no profession". So now we have {{any}}.
