How's this? — Skakid 17:09, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Depends where you got it from. Did you draw it yourself? --Pling! \ Brains12 17:11, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I drew it. He has my permission to use it. File:User Skakid9090 Piplup.jpgTab Loves Piplups 17:16, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't think this would pose any problems - anja talk 17:22, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
It's all right aslong as Tab relases it under the GFDL. :P -- User indochine dsk tree.png Indochine talk 18:33, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Are the Pokémon characters itself not copyrighted? :/ I mean, I don't have a problem with this, but just to be sure. poke | talk 10:20, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
The way I am looking at it, the Pokemon are a trademark of The Pokemon Company and/or Pokemon Inc. I read this and the bottom of http://www.pokemon.com/ which vaugely addresses our issue here. Imo it is a copyvio because the actual pokemon are trademarked but I guess it is up to any admin's discrestion.... --Shadowphoenix Please, talk to me; I'm so lonley ;-; 18:43, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
As far as i understand it, if the design (in this case with name attached) match that of a copyrighted product then it can't be released under GFDL because, as a derivated work, it would fall under fair use.--Fighterdoken 18:56, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) So, copyvio? --Chaiyo Kaldor talk contribs 02:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Handdrawn picture isn't copyvio. Copyvio would be the picture itself taken. But so's ur faec. Napalm Flame 02:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
The problem is, this is still a derivated work whose original copyright owner hasn't released under GFDL or a compatible license.--Fighterdoken 02:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
The original copyright owner being the creator, as it's just a picture. Scroll up, he said ska could use it. Napalm Flame 02:37, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
It's a handdrawn picture of a copyright. And yes, I suppose my face is a copyright, if you think a combination of George Clooney and Hugh Hefner to be copyrighted. I just laughed my pants. The above discussion seemed to be in agreement that this was indeed a copyvio, and I was just making a prod to see if the decision holds. --Chaiyo Kaldor talk contribs 02:39, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) The original owner of the image is Skakid, you are right, but the character design copyright owner is still Nintendo as far as i know.--Fighterdoken 02:40, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, like nintendo are going to do anything, otherwise youtube would be taken to court for having pokemon videos on there, and art fansites won't either, so why is the wiki any different. We're not here to profit from their stuff. Sense moar plz. Also, cotton wool less plz. One more thing, no lawyer's going to give a fuck about a picture of a piplup, tbh. Napalm Flame 02:44, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
No lawyers going to take anyone to court for NPA, but it's still policy. Hmm... Also, I do believe that Youtube has, in fact, been threatened with legal action, as one of the banned episode videos was blocked with a message about copyright, last time I checked, and they don't really make a profit off that one video. --Chaiyo Kaldor talk contribs 16:20, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Last time I checked youtube served millions of users, while we serve a small bit of a dying fanbase of a game called Guild Wars Antiarchangel User Antiarchangel No U Sig.png TROLL 16:24, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I never said Youtube didn't make a profit at all, did I? I don't think a sizable portion of viewers are going onto that one video, which, by the way, is now unaccessible. Here, let me check the exact views... I'm talking about the seizure one and not the bikini one, by the way... OK, I did find one that was unblocked with only 15k views, but the one that was blocked had 200k. While it is true that we don't have much of an audience that this image annoys, the point is that we have policy for a reason. I don't post pictures of my Hugh Clooney face, do I? --Chaiyo Kaldor talk contribs 16:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

All Pokémon characters, their names and character design are copyrighted and/or trademarks by Nintendo, Nintendo/Creatures Inc. and GAME FREAK Inc.. As with all our copyright problems it is not a problem of lawyers who would make problems about it but it is the possibility about it. We don't allow copyrighted images to be used here, that's all. poke | talk 17:20, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
