Inactive policy proposal

This page is currently an inactive policy proposal.

It is not being actively discussed or revised, or is not mature enough to be a policy proposal. Feel free to change this page and participate in the discussion.

Do not unreasonably cause discomfort or difficulty to any wiki user. Respect the wishes of individual users when dealing on their personal talk page in matters that are not involved with the operation or purpose of the wiki.

If you cannot deal with the requests of a user, and the communication is not essential to the purpose of the wiki, refrain from interacting with that user on their talk page.

Examples[edit]

Examples of cases where a user's requests should be honored:

  • Requests to break off a conversation not related to wiki content or operation.
  • Requests to move a discussion currently on a user's talk page to another location, if it does not concern the user in question specifically.
  • Requests to not post specific types of content on a user's talk page, if that content is not involved in matters directly regarding article content or operations of the wiki.

Note however that this policy is not an excuse to remove or otherwise avoid discussions which are necessary for the development and operation of the wiki, including but not limited to the following:

  • Notices, warnings, and instructions regarding wiki policies and conduct
  • Discussions of wiki content, especially controversial edits in which the user has involved themselves

Furthermore, participation in discussions on talk pages other than one's own is voluntary in nature and thus a user may not dictate their own rules for such interactions on others' pages.

Enforcement[edit]

Harassment is considered to be in the same league as personal attacks and should be dealt with similarly.
