MediaWiki talk:Copyrightwarning

From Guild Wars Wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

Can we add (preferably in bold) something along the lines of "Do not copy anything from GuildWiki if you're not sure that it's fully GFDL-compatible, or we'll snap you in half like a carrot"? It'd be for everyone's benefit, I think, so that good faith users don't copy dozens of articles thinking they're helping and then have their work deleted, while other editors also don't need to waste time checking each edit of the source GuildWiki articles for non-GFDL content, time which could be spent much more productively elsehow. --Dirigible 18:18, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

I disagree with the carrot part, else I like your idea ;) The copyright info really is well hidden in that notice, in the way that it's not easy to understand what might violate copyright. On a side note, I also had to look for GWW:COPYRIGHT for about five minutes.. More clear linking and info ftw! - Anja Anja Astor (talk) 18:23, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

restrict guild message to namespace[edit]

How about restricting the message about making a new guild page to the guild namespace like so:

{{#ifeq: {{NAMESPACE}} | Guild | Are you creating... | }}

or do you guys think this helps stop new guild pages in the other namespaces? -Smurf 18:56, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Good idea, I've changed it as you suggested. —Tanaric 23:02, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Amendment?[edit]

"You may also post content obtained from Guild Wars, its web sites, manuals and guides, concept art and renderings, press and fansite kits, and other such copyrighted material that ArenaNet has made available to the general public, to the site. All rights, title and interest in and to such content shall remain with ArenaNet or NCsoft, as applicable, and such content is not licensed pursuant to the GFDL."

We're not allowed to use text from guides, see here. --Santax (talk · contribs) 18:30, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Amendment needed[edit]

GNU Free Documentation License (1.2 or any later version) Should realy read GNU Free Documentation License (1.2 or any later version published by the free softwere foundation), just to reword it so that it's clearer RT | Talk - A joyous wintersday to all 09:18, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

I agree that your version is clearer, but (VERSION or any later version) is the standard text recommended by the license itself, last I checked. —Tanaric 17:22, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Positioning[edit]

I don't think that this message used to be between the edit summary and the save/preview/change buttons, is there a way to change this? -Chieftain Alex 07:57, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, it looks rather odd (especially with the minor edit button), but I don’t think it’s possible to adjust the placement. poke | talk 14:17, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
We could blank this message and move it to MediaWiki:Edittools instead, but that way people would never read the copyright warning... -Chieftain Alex 15:15, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
Nah, that’s a bad idea. And who knows if the copyrightwarning isn’t displayed somewhere else too, so blanking it would be a bad idea.. We will just have to get used to it. poke | talk 15:35, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
