OP PLZ NERF. Raptaz 14:06, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

uhh this isnt overpowered lmao

So your disabling yourself for five seconds so you can shut down another opponent for six seconds max? It's not the best option but can be used for spike I guess if you want to make yourself worthless for that time being.William Wallace 09:13, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Heres a tip, being Me, before attacking with your staff a melee, Empathy the melee, Blackout, then attack with your staff for more damage per second, if its a W better, stupify him with Blackout.--ShadowFog 16:33, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Uh... no. That's probably one of the worst uses for Blackout ever. -Auron 16:35, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
na...yes. You gotta try this method now, its a good use.(Word count same as Auron)--ShadowFog 16:40, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Blackout is a trade-off. You only use it when the disable hurts the other guy more than it hurts you. Using empathy and proceeding to wand is a really bad method of mesmering, and only works on AI/terrible warriors. Using it to prevent a monk from healing his team when they're under heavy degen pressure, to drain adrenaline from an about-to-spike war, to stop an enemy snare ele from spamming gust/shackles on your relic runner... all those are trade-offs in your favor. If you're just trying to get into a pissing contest with a single warrior, use ineptitude/clumsiness. -Auron 17:06, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I have to say you are shooting at the right point of Blackout. Blackout can be a powerful tool on the right hands. The statement I was making with using Empathy is just one tip and one tip only, using it against a melee while there are other better targets is bad choice, although you pretty hit the nail on head, scenario(already tried): an Assassin(or a weaker profesion trying to melee you) is chargin you(without counting any other factors,i.e.teammates,etc.) and since he deals far less damage then your staff, Empathy and Blackout and proceed to deal 11-22(staff) while Empathy deals him 46-52,dagger and staff speed:1.33secs=Empathy activation time, for 6 secs from 57-78 damage per 1.33, almost 285-390 damage, this is the thing I was talking about, it does greatly works(tried) against Thumpers, Touchers and Assassins. This is for DOMINATION mesmers only, if you are mixing with Illusion, stats are going to be too low to do this kind of damage.--ShadowFog 17:47, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

One problem with what you said, casters who stay in one spot attacking with wands in PVP always equals death for the caster.William Wallace 10:38, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

You gotta read William and read good, he said "...an Assassin(or a weaker profesion trying to melee you) is chargin you(without counting any other factors,i.e.teammates,etc.)", I think he meant when the time is right, duh!.--65.23.206.31 01:04, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

was a fake update. Lost-Blue 23:16, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Blackout would function correctly if it only disabled spells... - Vik 01:03, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Best use for blackout would be to hex oponents Casters/Attackers then snare and blackout oposing monk in my opinion anyway--85.225.130.11 08:29, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

lol. Call this a late entry but i dont care. After all i have read no one has said any thing about the use of blackout as a ritualist. I'm only saying this because as a ritualist i find almost no need to weild a weapon, and plenty of times where i am stationary for more than 5 sec. This skill is verry versitile. For example use it after casting a +whatever health regen to stop a boss from healing while you have 5 sec to rest and rebuild energy(leaving your team behind to solo the boss). Blackout dose not stop your spirits from attacking! ENJOY! [TTA]Epik Of The Unsung. 1.19.11

disable + recharge?[edit]

So when you use this, it gets disabled? or does it simply recharge? or does it get disabled and after that it has to get recharged? Can someone tell me the exact mechanics of the recharge/disable for this skill? File:User JonathanMartin Sig.jpgJonathan 17:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

All skills become unusable for 1...5 seconds. Simple as that. After that, if they were already charged, you can use it again; if it was recharging, iirc, the 1...5 seconds is added on to the recharge. Not sure about that though, as I never use this anymore. Vili User talk:Vili 04:35, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
When you use this skill, it recharges for 12 seconds. If a skill (on your bar) is unused, it recharges for 5 seconds. If a skill is recharging but will be recharged in less than 5 seconds, the cooldown resets and the skill recharges for 5 seconds. If a skill is recharging for longer than 5 seconds, nothing happens to it. Since 12 seconds is longer than 5 seconds, nothing weird happens to the recharge of blackout. -Auron 04:39, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

I really like to black out the monks for 6 seconds and with the 1 second your recharged before him use shame. you gain 13 energy if they cast which i dont see why you wouldn't or they either don't cast. its a win win situation

Blackout works well with builds that temporarily shutsdown like backfire(10sec) then shame(up to 6sec) then Blackout then backfire again. Now build like energy denial would be completly stupid to have blackout because monk already shutdown and your helping him to give time to get energy.

Blackout + Echo[edit]

+ slowdown can be very funny!

OP[edit]

Disables adrenline.... you can completely destroy hammer wars with this. 96.47.121.175 00:59, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Tsch, if your gonna destroy an adrenaline warriors as a mesmer, you use ancestors visage or soothing images.

Monster skills[edit]

Does it work on monster skills?

Skill Icon[edit]

Doesn't the icon look like a solar eclipse to anybody else? For example, take a look at this: http://www.afreemind.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/solar-eclipse.jpg Remove the trivia if you don't agree with me. --66.91.82.73 03:05, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Well yeah that's why it's called Blackout lol. MrCheesecake 08:08, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
