Naruto[edit]

By looking at the icon, can it be that this skill is inspired by the fire jutsus they use there? like this --Serina 21:37, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for my noobness with wikis, so I don't know how to properly sign and tab this, but I figured I might as well say that fire breathing performers have been around forever, not to mention the depiction of fire breathing monsters and occasionally spells or even potions that provide an effect of the same nature in fantasy books, magic the gathering, and dungeons and dragons.

I'm a huge fan of Naruto, but they did not invent the notion of humans spitting fire out of their mouths.

Nor is it just a notion. It exists irl too. 145.94.74.23 11:36, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Trivia...[edit]

I know some would disagree with me, but breath of fire really shouldn't be mentioned as a refrence, considering it is common saying, ex. dragons have a breath of fire.... - GreenEarth28

In most instances I have heard OR read, its generally put as fire breath or firebreathing. On the other hand, the Breath of Fire series of games has released 5 titles, with the original releases across 3 consoles, spanning 9 years, with the exact skill name as their main title (or vice versa, really). Heck, out of the first page of Google hits, 1 is for a yoga technique (and not the Dhalsim of Street Fighter yoga) and the rest are the game series. Guildwarsrunner 01:25, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Breath of Fire - Exhaustion[edit]

I logged into Guild Wars today to check out the Wizard's Tower in Kessex Peak after seeing it in Guild Wars 2. To my surprise, I found BoF now causes 10 points of Exhaustion! Isn't that a little heavy for such a small AoE? DonutxDude 11:47, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Well, let's compare it to Fire Storm since the two skills act almost identically.

10 Energy2 Activation time20 Recharge time - Deals 5...29...35 fire damage each second (10 seconds). Hits foes adjacent to target's initial location.

10 Overcast5 Energy2 Activation time10 Recharge time - Deals 10...34...40 fire damage each second (5 seconds). Hits foes adjacent to target's initial location.

Now, let's just ignore the Overcast (new name for Exhaustion, by the way) costs for a second. Breath of Fire, compared to Fire Storm, deals more damage per hit, costs half the Energy, and has half the recharge time as well. So, one could cast Breath of Fire more often (every 12 seconds) than Fire Storm (every 22 seconds), and their damage output would be higher for the same amount of Energy.
Total damage for each cast at Fire Magic Rank 16 (including casting and recharge times)
  • Breath of Fire: 1st - 210 (12s) > 2nd - 420 (24s) > 3rd - 630 (36s) > 4th - 840 (48s) > 5th - 1050 (60s)
  • Fire Storm: 1st - 370 (22s) > 2nd - 740 (44s) > 3rd - 1110 (66s)
So...
  • In two casts, Breath of Fire deals 50 more damage than Fire Storm does in one cast.
  • In four casts, Breath of Fire deals 100 more damage than Fire Storm would in two casts.
  • In six casts, Breath of Fire deals 150 more damage than Fire Storm would in three casts.
Etc...
So, Breath of Fire deals 50 more damage in two casts than Fire Storm does in one cast for the same amount of Energy.
For a 13.5% increase in damage, I do agree 10 Overcast is a little much. 5 Overcast would probably be plenty. However, we also have to pay attention to Overcast's new function.
In a recent update, a new purpose was implemented for Overcast. While affected by Overcast, certain skills have an additional or upgraded effect. Stone Daggers causes Bleeding on the target. Ice Spear gives you some Health regeneration. Lightning Strike hexes the target and hits them again when the hex ends. Flare becomes AoE, hitting foes adjacent to your target.
So, while constant use of Breath of Fire probably isn't the best idea, pair it for its damage output with other skills for the Overcast benefits, and it shouldn't be a problem. Conversely, if you want the same skill without dealing with Overcast, take Fire Storm instead.
That is, if you're playing PvE. In PvP, it's probably better to leave this off your skill bar. I assume so, anyway, as there are likely better alternatives if you're looking to bring some Overcast. -- Leviticus Lo - Talk ..Stuff! :D 16:39, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
For Fire Magic i'd say that Incendiary Bonds is a better option because of the lower OC and it has burning wich offers synergy with other ele skills that require it, it's a good bar compression skill having both OC and burning. Meteor would be second best for it's knock down ability and an OC about as equal to it's recharge, also good for those (if any) that do not have acces to Proph.
